New book: disgraced putter TIGER WOODS had secret training to be a NAVY seal.
Woods’ former coach writes that the duffer went on secret training exercises to become a Navy SEAL, and seriously considered giving up his 18 hole career.
Woods went on dozens of trips to naval bases across the country in preparation to become a candidate for the elite commando unit.
His preparation included parachuting as much as 10 times a day and training in “self defense, urban warfare simulations and shooting,” Hank Haney, Woods’ former coach, wrote in “The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods” which was leaked in Golf Digest.
Haney wrote in the book that he tried to dissuade Tiger out of his delusional plan, as the SEALs have a mandatory age limit of 28.
“It’s not a problem,” Woods responded.
“They’re making a special age exemption for me,” said Woods, who had turned 29 in 2005.
Tiger probably could’ve used the extended training to fend off wife livid Elin Nordegren who flipped when The ENQUIRER first exposed his serial cheating.

Riiiiight! Destroy your knees with all those parachute jumps so as to end a lucrative golf career on purpose.

And what about the ENLISTMENT exemption? Before you can even attempt to get into the seals you must first ENLIST and go through regular boot camp. Or did Tiger overlook that "little" detail?

Just have no respect of anyone that takes a mans money and then talks about him behind his back. Haney is a quack, before long I expect a tell all book about Rush from him.

Tiger is a scuba diver. I’ve heard he carries an Instructor or Divemaster certification which means he’s pretty competent. I still wouldn’t put that up against what they learn in UDT/BUDS. The drown-proofing exercises are daunting.
I also rather doubt that Tiger did any real combat shooting. Can you imagine the firestorm if Tiger’s career ended in one of the shooting rooms? The Navy would have to be crazy to risk it.

All SEAL packages must be submitted to the Chief of Naval Personnel (PERS-401DH) IAW MILPERSMAN 1220-100.
REQUIREMENTS
Physical - Academic - Performance
1. Must be 28 years old or less
2. Be paygrade E-1 through E-6.
3. Possess a minimum Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score of GS+MC+EI=165 or VE+MK+MC+CS=220
4. Have normal color perception and meet medical standards as specified in the NAVMED P-117, articles 15-66, 15-9 and MILPERSMAN 6120-010.
5. Agree to 51 months of obligated service upon graduation from BUD/S . (Applicants are eligible for OTT due to high attrition from training and SRB maximizing).
6. Meet minimum performance standard. Past 3 years of Enlisted Performance Evaluations (all trait marks, 3.0 or better).
7. Pass Physical Screening Test IAW MILPERSMAN 1220-140 1220-170 and Exhibit 1 of 1220-100 and provide test/interview results as part of application package IAW Exhibit 2 of Milpersman 1220-100.
8. Have a clear disciplinary record for previous 12 months (no nonjudicial punishment/courts-martial or serious civil court convictions).
9. Be eligible for SECRET clearance based on a National Agency Check.
10. Be screened by a qualified screening official, as outlined in MILPERSMAN 1220-140.
* Must be qualified a Second Class Swimmer or better
* Only men are eligible
Physical Screen Test (PST)
1. 500 yard swim using breast and /or side stroke < 12:30
Ten minutes rest
2. Perform 42+ pushups in 2 minutes
Two minutes rest
3. Perform 50+ sit-ups in 2 minutes
Two minutes rest
4. Perform 6+ pull-ups, no time limit
Ten minute rest
5. Run 1.5 miles < 11:30 (boots and long pants)
As a reminder, there are no maximums on these physical tests. Prospective trainees should provide the best scores possible, i.e., give his best effort.
Submission Procedures:
1. Put in a “Special Request Chit” through your chain of command requesting SEAL training.
2. Submit a “Personnel Action Request” (Form 1306/7) to SPECWAR/Diver assignment PERS-401D.
3. Submit the following with your request:
a. A service record copy of your ASVAB test scores
b. PST/Interview results (ref Exhibit 2 of Milpersman 1220-100).
c. The following documents from dive physical (administered by a Diving Medical Officer): 2808, 2807, Diver/BUD/S medical Screening Questionnaire (Exhibit 8 of Milpersman 1220-100)
d. Copies of three previous performance evaluation reports
4. Submit package – (the below submission methods are listed in the order of quickest processing):
Not that this has anything to do with the validity of this “news” article but Tiger’s father was a Green Beret officer and Tiger has spent time training with the Green Berets.
He is also very supportive of our military and invites them play in the PRO-AM portion of his annual golf tournament held each year in the Washington DC area.
I’m already exhausted just from reading the physical requirement. I’m realistic enough to know that physically, even though I’m an excellent swimmer, I could could never have made it through the program. Why? Low tolerance for cold. And I know they have the trainees swim in freezing cold water. Not for me. My blood is much too thin for that.

You didn't read the fine print. You're just not allowed to defend yourself.
And you have to voluntarily ask for more, or you don't pass the training.
Tiger probably got the guided tour of SEAL training. Writers are always embellishing this stuff to make their subject look even more amazing than they already are.
I seem to recall that he was invited and spent two weeks with the Green Berets most likley because of his father’s legacy, his celebrity status, and the penchant for golf among military command staff...
I always thought that Tiger Woods was a pretty good guy. He earned his reputation on the golf course. And he sounded pretty conservative when he talked. He refused to let bill clinton use him for photo-ops, which clinton thought would help his own reputation.
Then the bottom fell out, and all that stupid dirt was revealed. It was very disappointing, because it’s not what I would have expected of him. But it doesn’t mean he was bad in all ways. Among other things, I think he was on good terms with the military. He respected them, and they liked him. No, they wouldn’t have actually made him a Seal, but they might have allowed him to take some Seal training, recognizing him as a friend and admirer.
For me it would be “swim for 1/2 a mile. Wait two days. Do 45 push ups...wait two days...”
