Rush Limbaugh - What If (vanity)
(none) | March 6, 2012 | BobL

Posted on 03/06/2012 5:15:10 PM PST by BobL

Forgive me for starting a vanity thread here, but if the issue is important enough, sometimes comments are not sufficient.

As some of you may know, there is a small army of investors that follow around Rush's sponsors. Basically they apolitical people who know that if Brand A advertises on Rush's show, Brand A's sales will go through the roof. So once Brand A starts advertising, they buy the stock (if it's available) and generally clean up (probably the surest investment strategy in existence - even Rush has talked about it). It is likely these investors that are pulling their money out of Carbonite right now, as their stock tanks. There are probably others that have shorted Carbonite, considering they shot themselves in the foot - by coming out in defense of tyranny. For investors that shorted them today (or yesterday), they would be up at least 10%, in less than two days. But the vast majority of people (including FReepers and Rush Listeners, and myself) do neither. Some of us buy their product, but that's about it.

So what if another company moves in for the kill - perhaps Mozy. I, myself, have never purchased a backup service, but I was getting close to Carbonite, especially given their advertising on Rush's show. However, since this story broke, it appears that Carbonite's product, in addition to their attitude towards Rush, leave something to be desired.

So how would a company move in for the kill - very easy. Buy national air time on Rush's show and STATE IT TO THE WORLD that you are doing this in support of free speech (as well as having a useful product) - and, believe me, Rush would be more than happy to amplify that message. If a company would do that, they would be OVERWHELMED by Rush listeners trying to make a point, and would see their stock go through the roof. Their owner(s) could cash out, probably in week after starting their ads, and never have to worry about working again. Yes, their company would have to put up with the harassment of OWS and Media Matters types, but that is the cost of doing business, and they're easy to deal with if you have a plan for them (i.e., put callers through a screening process before putting them through to humans, or just direct them to the web - not hard; for example, make them give you a real credit card number to set up an account, before putting them on with a live person).

For a huge company like Walmart, I'd say don't bother - too many people from all walks of life use them. But for a small to medium size company, even getting just 1% of Rush's 22,000,000 listeners pretty much sets them up for life. While I pick on Carbonite here, it's only because they are a public company and they have been most vocal in stabbing Rush in the back. There are also mattress companies, flower delivery companies, and (in fact) any other company that could simply explode their sales, by making a very pro-America political statement and advertising on Rush's show.

For the record, I have no investment (or shorting) of Carbonite, Mozy, or any of Rush's other advertisers (that I know of) - and certainly won't be doing it now, after posting this.

“Perhaps I’ll just back up a bunch of junk on my carbonite subscription and lock my backup so it takes more server space - considering they don’t give refunds that is my only method of making my subscription count for anything meaningful in this ridiculous mess.”

I like that plan, have some fun with them on the way out.

“Oh, I donm’t blame Rush! He promoted them which tells me what fools they are for dropping their advertising.”

I don’t either. Rush has a business to run. Not all companies are Mother Teresa’s, some will have problems. But it seems clear to me that at least some of his sponsors were not the best in their fields - and you are TOTALLY RIGHT, as those companies will now have to compete their product on a level playing field, without the huge boost that Rush gave them. That’s why investors are running for the hills from Carbonite.

The propaganda may be winning...the numbers are NOT winning! Conservatism is NOT dead..Problem is we all need to adopt a fearless strategy, just like Andrew Breitbart did!

“I’m happy to hear that Life Lock will not be leaving..They refuse to be brought into a lefty campaign to end free speech. The rumor was they were leaving, they are not..”

Oooo, not bad. Life Lock could be the ones to take advantage of this mess and make a killing - but they have to do more than just deny they’re pulling out. They must make a statement (or better yet, have Rush make a statement) in support of FREE SPEECH and what it means to this country. If they do that, they might just find a boatload of new customers.

“Good read Bob.... Thanks !”

You’re welcome. It looks like Kim was telling the left to take a hike - GREAT FOR HER. She’s a tough woman.

Ha that was my thought for revenge too. I did what you did and took off my billing card so no auto renew but had just renewed in December. I figure just upload a butt load of photos, lock it, and get another service.

I think Life Lock got a taste of what it is like to be unfairly targeted, and they are smart if they decide to stay with Rushbo.

Life Lock has a great product! best in the biz...They are from my home state of AZ..They’ll fair well. They have something that they were able to corner the market with...Good company..

I am the owner of a small business. I know that you cannot bring politics into the frey...unless that is your market.
I have made it by being the best...by doing above and beyond what my competitor can offer. That is why Life Lock
will succeed, plus they stand on their values...

It is called “work ethic”

Amen. It isn’t easy for conservatives to stoop to the level of leftists, but we must fight them on their turf, by the rules they set. We tend to look at the battle the way Hogan’s Heroes portrayed the US and Germany during WW2, which was a bunch of well-intentioned people (at least at the lower levels) that were in a “gentlemens’ war”, while the leftists look at this from the Eastern Front, between Russia and Germany, where both sides knew that the loser in this battle was going to be raped, pillaged, decimated, and massacred. If we don’t accept that the left treats this like the Eastern Front, we will be killed - there is no path to compromise with them, never has been, never will be.

At the end of this war against them, there will not be back-slaps and hand-shakes, there will be blood, and the only question is whose blood.

Great to hear. Life Lock seems to be in a perfect position to pull the trigger and show the country that Rush will not be stopped. I don’t care what company does it, I don’t even care if their product is not the best available, I just want to see it done as that will shut the Left up for years.

I didn’t listen to all of Rush today, but FWIW, I heard a Quicken ad as I passed by the radio.

Conservatism is dying not because of our ideas but because we can not get our ideas across as they do. Propaganda wins with money and the rich are no longer on our side.

+50 years ago both parties were conservative today we are barely part of one party. The change took place when the wealthy realized they can vote themselves money from then on things went down hill for us.

Today socialism is the biggest scam in human history perpetrated by big business and the leftist are soaking it up. As Karl Marx said, "Socialists are useful idiots."

It doesn't matter how good our ideas are we can not win against both the wealthy and the leftist.

You are right they do want us dead just as they did during Stalin, Hitler, Mao and so on. Genetically engineered is in the realm of possibilities though it is just a matter of time.
How will we fight or will we fight I am not sure?

I won’t argue your points - it’s going to be a very tough fight. Maybe, just maybe, the left will overreach and people will FINALLY start seeing through them. Let’s hope so.

““As Advertisers Flee Limbaugh, Pro-Gingrich SuperPAC Buys More Time””

It’s a GREAT MOVE. Even though I’m a Santorum fan, I’ll take Newt, for sure, if he can pull it off. Back in Florida, the media markets wouldn’t let the SuperPACs advertise for Newt, as they said they needed “more substantiation” of their claims. They were in the tank for Romney, of course.

But a vacuum has opened up. And, in fact, I heard one of their ads just today as I was driving during lunch time. If this SuperPAC is able to FIGURE OUT that a lot of CONSERVATIVES listen to Rush (hint, hint), they just may be able to help Newt get the edge he needs.
