I'm 44 years old. I currently have a sprained thumb. I will always have a 2nd degree shoulder separation (torn ligaments between the shoulder blade and collar bone). I hurt every day because of lower back issues.

And tomorrow night I will step onto the ice for my weekly mens-league hockey game. I don't get paid "zillions". But I still do it. Why? Because I love the game. I love my teammates. I love the competition. Someday, probably very soon, I will have to hang up my skates...and even on that day, I will be thinking that "maybe I can go just one more"

I completely understand why they don't just walk away.

You won’t hang up the skates, you’ll just slow down a bit, and you will find the right league where it will continue
