From my read of the article I see that the pitbull was in the house of the corgi owner (not the house of the pitbull owner) and was attacking her dog. When a dog has another dog by the throat it is trying to kill it. The dog then turned on the officer and he shot it dead.

I don’t see a problem with what the officer did really. He was defending the dog of the home owner. He was defending himself from a vicious dog. It was a justifiable shooting. The dog was in a home it had invaded and was put down before it could injure or kill either the corgi or the cop.

So it surprises me that so many here would get mad at the cop for shooting this dog. Are there that many animal rights people on here who would say a dog is more valuable than a human? Or is it just you are pitbull lovers who think these dogs are painted with a bad press rap?

I think this was the way I would deal with it if a dog that wasn’t my own broke into my home and was attacking my dog or child.

The only way this story could have been better is if the irresponsible pit bull owner whose dog was running loose and attacking other dogs in their own homes was inadvertently stuck by a stray bullet in the testicles.

It is not that many are defending the dog it is more that they are being critical of the cop. In this case the cop preformed well IMHO, but in many other reported instances the cops shot dogs that they should not.

I’ve read about them and seen the hate for cops on here for such things. I also understand that some of these cops did shoot dogs for no good reasons.

But I can’t see where we should lump all of these police in the same bunch as those bad shootings. Are we just going to jump on the cops in every incident and doesn’t that make us as crazy about who, what, where and how as any PETA or liberal loon who looks for another reason to hate cops?

I guess I was just surprised at how much hate was being spewed at a cop who did, in my opinion, the right thing.

If a human or animal has entered my home and was doing anything remotely like this to my pet or family they would be shot to death.

I will always value human life over any animals life. And I love my dog, cat, bearded dragon very much.

Yes many just jump to the conclusion that the cop is wrong or that the pit bull is at fault without bothering with each specific case. Also many here automatically jump to the defense of any cop even if the cop was in the wrong.

Sadly preconceived notions get in the way of real reviews of reporting/evidence.

All gun carrying cops should be required to undergo some form of canine training.

You mean like they go to the range and a bunch of dog cutouts pop up and they have to cap them as fast as they can while shouting, "I am in fear of my life"? That kinda training?

Most adults will suffer very little damage from the attack of a Chihuahua.

You haven’t met my 4.5 lb chihuahua.

I haven’t seen much hatred (it’s a noun, not a verb) for the cop here, though. Only 1 or 2 posts indicating doubt. I think maybe you’re conflating what you’ve seen on other threads with this 1.

Incidentally, I too see nothing wrong in this case.
