Vanity: NFL is a tax exempt non-profit (Huff Post article)

Saw an article on Huff Post, linked via Real Clear Sports, that the NFL is a non-profit tax exempt organization. I know Huff Post is banned from Free Republic so I posted this as a FYI vanity.

That just means that the franchises and players are the ones making the profits. I expect that the league office is funded by the individual teams rather than being a money maker on its own, so I'm not surprised it would be set up as a non-profit organization. If they do have more revenues than expenses for a year, then the teams were accessed too much that year.

Even if the league was a normal corporation, it would probably net close to zero each year and pay no taxes anyway.

Whether it is a tax-deductible contribution or a legitimate business expense to belong to an industry organization, it can still be written off on taxes. It looks like Huffington is just trying to pump up some anti-1% anger among those who have never filled out a tax form.
