At first, I expected it to be Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee!

Recorded the first episode on Monday, and watched it yesterday. I read all of Tony Hillerman’s novels in the Jim Chee/Joe Leaphorn series about the Navajo Tribal Police. This will hopefully pull it all together. I’m presently making my way through the Charlie Moon series by James Doss. Moon is a member of the Southern Ute Police Department. Very good books.

"At first, I expected it to be Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee!"

LOL!! My comment after yours mentions the book series, which I thoroughly enjoyed, plus the few movies starring Adam Beach and Wes Studi.

Another Hillerman fan! That's where I got my FR name from. In several Hillerman novels he mentions the "season when thunder sleeps."

I've travelled some (not as much as I'd like) through Hillerman country and the Navajo reservation. I've seen Shiprock, even camped/hiked in Chaco ("Thief of Time") and seen the government housing referenced in the novel.

Going back to the SW, on the fringes of Hillerman country this summer for two weeks of camping/hiking. It is nearly obscene how much I'm looking forward to it - already started making gear/packing/menu lists etc. even though the trip is almost 3 months away.

I love that part of the country and those books brought it back to me. Great stories and believable Navajo characters.

I’ve never been out to that part of the country unfortunately. You’re right about the books...great stories and characters. Always enjoyed learning about the Navajo culture.

New Mexico sucks for all you ‘pie in the sky’ sorts. If you live in a city and want to move here; don’t. You will try to change things here into the hell-hole you left. Your ‘brilliant’ ideas, and ‘know-it-all’ (better than the folks who live here) liberal agenda.

I’ve heard of them, and in fact read Margaret Coel’s “The Eagle Catcher.” I’ve also read “Ravenmocker,” by Jean Hager, which is the first in her Molly Bearpaw series. She’s also got a Mitch Bushyhead series that I think I have the first two books of.

New Mexico allows anybody to register to vote. New Mexico will give you a drivers license if you can make up 9 numbers in lieu of a SS#.

New Mexico does absolutely not suck. One of the most beautiful and culturally interesting parts of the country.

White sands, Jemez during Fall.

“New Mexico does absolutely not suck.”

Stick to Jemez or White sands...
