In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

antipode \AN-ti-pohd\, noun
A direct or exact opposite.

Example sentences:
It seemed that this enthusiast was just as cautious, just as much alive to judgments in other minds as if he had been that antipode of all enthusiasm called "a man of the world."
-- George Eliot, Daniel Deronda

I look for the furthest spot on earth away from Lancaster — Lancaster's antipode— the middle of the Indian Ocean.
-- Douglas Coupland, Shampoo Planet

Here we are, thrust to the opposite and absurd antipode of what we think is good. And tomorrow we'll be out of bed at three o'clock in the pitch-black morning.
-- Tim O'Brien, If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home

Etymology:
Antipode is actually a clipping, or back-formation, of the word Greek word antipodes. It lost its s in the mid-1500s. The original word literally meant "opposite feet," as in "the place on the exact opposite point on the globe.".

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Rise and shine is the antipode of my existence this morning. The light is just dawning on a foggy, grey day in eastern Wisconsin with a mist hanging over my pasture — not shiny at all.

A for you! A misty pasture sounds enchanting. I'm off to school and the park.

The genocide was nearly complete; here and there, the crumpled bodies of a pode had yet to expire, but little could be done to save them. What possibly could motivate someone to such an atrocity? There simply is no understanding the hatred of the antipode.

(/fail)

The mist is beginning to clear. It looks like it will be a fine day, after all. I’m about to let Max, the Golden Retriever, out for his morning romp and explorations. I wish that he could bring me the newspaper, but I don’t allow him out on the road. LOL.
