Colton Dixon: ‘American Idol’ producers asked me to tone down devotion to Jesus Christ on show

“American Idol” producers have apparently warned Colton Dixon if he doesn’t tone down his overtly Christian act, he won’t have a prayer of winning the reality competition.

The 20-year-old devout Christian, though, told Today.com that he answers to a higher authority than voting viewers.

“When we first started the Twitter and Facebook stuff, they said beware of political and religious tweets,” Dixon told the site. “Just because it can turn off voters or whatever. But, you know, being a Christian is who I am. It is a part of me musically. It is what I want to do after the show — go into Christian music.”

A high percentage of finalists seem to have gotten their start singing in church. Several have been worship leaders.

But I thought THE VIEWERS determine who wins this competition? Let THEM decide, a—hole producer!

It means he's already lost, but they just wanted to try to get his voluntary agreement as a defense against a lawsuit before they dump him.

You are so right. Scotty was very vocal about his faith, as was Lauren Alaina (runner up) Nigel, (producer) is an obama lover. Yuk! Plus, a secular Brit. However, in his defense, he does seem to have some morals. Colton will be just fine. They aren’t going to let a guy win this year anyway.

Danny Gokey came in 3rd during season 8, and he sure didn’t tone down his love for Jesus. Carrie Underwood is also a Christian, Mandisa, Phil Stacey, Jason Castro, (came in 4th season 7), Daughtry (who is very quiet about his faith), Chris Sligh, (10th place season 6), Jordin Sparks, (winner of season 6), Melinda Doolittle, Kris Allen (winner of season 8), and the list goes on.

The country is more into faith than what these producers think. I say, let Colton, be Colton.

If he loses because of his Christianity it will only illustrate all the more how depraved pop culture has become. He is right to speak out on this.
We have been silent too long.
I have never watched “Idol”. I can tell by the expressions on the singers faces I don’t want to hear what’s coming out of their mouths. I detest today’s “singing” style. All they are doing is showing off and that is not my idea of entertainment.

“Melinda Doolittle”

I loved her!

This is silly, I had no idea this fellow was religious, of course I am not in the “twitter-verse” so what do I know.

The only one I was aware of who is religious is the black kid who actually is a preacher’s son. See how much attention I pay? I don’t even remember the guy’s name, but he is GREAT, I think he may go all the way this year.
