Did you ever see him in person during his "prime"? His tee shots
carried past where the others' finished. I'd guess he's lost twenty yards since then, even while others have gained with the better equipment and balls.
If he can ever corral both his temper and his temperance, he might contend occasionally again--or at least make a few cuts, like this week, even if only barely. Of course, one wonders what 'demon rum' has finally done to that silky putting stroke he once had.

I did, at the Tucson Open, more than 10 years ago. They had a par 5 playing 630 yards. Strong tail wind. He hit his tee shot well past the blue marker, right down the middle, over 450 yards. His second shot, a short iron, flew past the green.
To complete the irony, Corey Pavin was in the group behind him, dinking his 250-yard drives.
