Not sure if it's still like it, but I remember driving through a patch of Georgia where some big carpet manufacturers were located. It stunk for MILES. Not sure if it was the companies or what.

Transplants from both coasts complain about the smell of the chemical plants in the Houston area. Too bad they don’t recognize the smell of money, jobs and low taxes!

There used to be one near Alexandria, LA, as well, but I haven't smelled it my last few times through there. Don't know if it's closed, or if I'm just not hitting the wrong days.
