Tim Tebow trade encounters snag

After word spread rapidly Wednesday that the New York Jets had acquired quarterback Tim Tebow from Denver for draft picks, the teams have encountered a hang-up in the language in Tebow's contract that could nullify the trade, a Broncos source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Tebow has about $5 million worth of recapture language in his contract, meaning the Jets would have to pay back some money to Denver, and the Jets might be unwilling to do that.

The trade, then, is not finalized.

Absolutely not.

Romo may be a choker, and his back up Orton generally unimpressive, but Tebow is even worse. No way do we want Tim Tebow. That would only make our mediocre Cowboys even worse.

People need to face it, Tim Tebow is really not a very good NFL caliber quarterback. He won't likely start anywhere next year, and in a few years he may not even be in the league.

I hope this Jets deal falls through. On paper, he is a stiff as quarterback. Let him go elsewhere.

What a real QB looks like.

I also don’t think Tebow ever bobbled a hold for a crucial game winning kick.

None, because as I plainly said - Dallas is a mediocre team (and have been for a long while). What I don't want is to further downgrade the squad by picking up a quarterback who isn't even as good as Romo or Orton.

Tebow will not likely start anywhere in the league next year because he is simply not very good.

Joe in a wheel chair and drunk could probably still outdo Tebow on the field.

What's wrong wth the NYJets? They already have a premier QB. If they want to pay TBow mucho bucks to sit on the sidelines, more power to them.

Stupid IMHO.

He only got a team with an O-line like a row of toll booths into the playoffs. He was sacked more times than anyone in the NFL 1 for every 11 attempts.

It wasn’t because he wasn’t mobile. Orton was fired because Elway put him behind a squad of cheerleaders, then demanded he get them to the Superbowl.

He got that crew to the playoffs. Nothing less than a miracle. If you asked him, I’m quite sure Tim would admit as much.

I am a Jet fan who does not want to inflict the horrific franchise upon Tim. Mark Sanchez is a pathetic pretender, who makes Tebow look like Bart Starr. Management stupidly gave him a new contract, when what he really needs is a 5th year at USC for remedial QB’ing. They will implode and it won’t be pretty. I do not want Tebow to have to deal with that mess and perhaps be blamed.

Or Sanchez for that matter, to whom the idiot Jets insanely just handed $40 million.

Orton was 1 - 4 with Denver...yeah, much better than Tebow. Romo is good at golf and dating blondes.

I TOTALLY agree! Tebow is NOTHING but media hype. He may just barely do enough on the field to keep it going, but he is not that good.

I’d keep Romo any day over picking up Tebow.

I can’t imagine why in the world the Jets would want him. They already have a good QB. By bringing in Tebow, they’ll just be inviting a media circus/quarterback controversy, and no team in their right mind ever wants that. My guess is, within 5 years(probably less) virtually everyone would have forgotten who Tebow is.

I was a 12 year old Johnny Unitas and Baltimore Colts fan in 1969. That was when the world tilted off its axis, when the upstart AFL Jets beat the mighty Colts.

But you are sure right. That is what a Jets QB looks like. He called the result, cocky SOB, and he called it right.

Tebow will almost certainly not start on any team in the league next year. Even in NY he will just be a backup to Sanchez. He may have a great personality, may be a nice guy, may even have terrific leadership qualities, but he does not have the skill set required to be a winning NFL quarterback over the long haul. There are good quarterbacks on bad teams and mediocre quarterbacks on good teams, but when it is absolutely obvious a QB does not have the fundamentals to have long term success, no team is going to want to invest much time and effort on him.

Denver was eager to get rid of him even during the win streak last year. Elway may not have been able to say as much, but pretty much everyone who analyzes the position knew it. I said last year Tebow wouldn’t last long in Denver, and sure enough he is already on the way out.

Look, lets be honest. Tebow is only popular here and on other conservative blogs because he is an outspoken Christian. Everyone knows it. I root for him as well, and I wish him success and hope he defies all the odds. Saying that, I certainly don’t want him, even as a backup, on my favorite NFL football team (and I’ve been a Cowboys fan all my life).

Now that is not to say I am particularly impressed with Romo - and I am no big fan of Orton. Romo has the skill set to be very good and a superbowl winner, but he makes stupid mistakes regularly (and in clutch situations) and makes it difficult for Garrett to really let him loose. Orton seems to be an okay backup and one that won’t become an unwarranted national celebrity because of things unrelated to football. I don’t want a guy as a backup who will immediately cause a QB controversy the minute he takes a few snaps for Romo simply because people like him personally.
