I'm in the market for a pistol and was talking to a client of mine (ex RAF EOD) who has a pretty good collection (and a shooting gallery in his basement) and he mentioned the Sig Sauer as his favorite (along with the Baretta) but I can't remember which model he mentioned.
Anyone have any advice on Sigs in general and which models are worth checking out?
Sig P232 here. .380 ACP I really like it, but I’m in the market for a smaller pocket size 9mm. Looking at KelTec.
I would guess they are among the best auto pistols out there.
The only two models I have owned are P220 and P226 tho I have owned several of each. Never found any reason to regret owning one.
I just remembered I also had a P225 which is just like the 226 except single column mag.
I say go with them unless the price is too high.
Go to cobra64’s homepage.
In my former life as a police officer, I found that many fellow cops carried them and loved the model. I shot Sigs on occasion and found them acceptable, but I think the real differences between handguns are very marginal and mostly subjective.
Serious advice to you: Go to a gun range that is also a dealer; most will allow you to rent as many models as you’d like to test fire. Test the Sig Sauer along with several others, both similar and dissimilar.
I have a Sig 229 and a Sig 2022. Love ‘em both.
LOL! Yeah, I guess so. He got some purty stuff...
Sig’s are superbly made, top of the line weapons. They are expensive however, and in the hands of a novice are like giving formula one race cars to drivers ed. students. Be patient, try a few, rent a few, spend some time with experienced shooters and once you’ve developed some skill and understanding of what’s involved it would be time to look seriously at the high-end equipment.
I have/had;
SIG P226
SIG P228
SIG P229
They’re good pistols.
1. Avoid the SIG PRO line, which is a plastic iteration they tried some years ago. Plastic isn’t bad (I’m a Glock guy now), but the these aren’t the best examples of SIGs.
2. Stick with the “classic” SIGs in aluminum and steel and you’ll be happy. P226, P220, P229, etc.
Hell yeah!the sig sauer P226 is awesome!
But beware, some of the sigs are not so great.
I have an M2 that is a bag of worms.
Its accurate, it’s neat because it shoots multiple calibers, but its bulky and the trigger plain stinks.
I have a Browning High Power 9mm, a Ruger 357 Magnum, and a Taures 38. I love them all, but I understand Sig Sauer’s are amoung the best of 9mm’s.
Waiting for my client to invite me over to his basement for a little shooting, but he’s been busy and with the SHTF, have decided to shoot first and ask questions later...
Good advice.
My wife carries a Sig Sauer 232 .380. She loves it. We put 250 rounds through it yesterday.
Love Sig Sauer. It’s like driving a Mercedes vs. a Volkswagon bug.
Sig P238 and I love it. However, go to a range and fire several. See what you like. I have a Rock Island 45 that I love too but it’s a dirt cheap gun and it’s kinda like dating an ugly girl. It’s fun but you don’t want your friends to know about it.
