We had just moved into our newly remodeled home and invited old friends to celebrate. Their kids proceeded to destroy it in one weekend. One found the living room carpet seam and pulled two threads out the full length. Another took a knife to his already chopped bbq and cut through his paper plate, through the table cloth and into my grandmother's antique dining table, another carved into the bedroom wall and they all, adults included, slammed the fridge door into the wall damaging the wall and the fridge door. The kids, 3 to 9, screamed the whole time. The parents just laughed. I was VERY nice about it all until it came to the dining table when I nearly lost it. The parents got mad at me for correcting the little monsters. The father acted more childish than the kids and the mother berated me as they were leaving. They have never been back and we haven't spoken since.

Yes, the one episode wore out her welcome. We were trying to help out a person and her kids whom we felt genuinely needed help. We also got a quick education in why she had worn out her welcome elsewhere.

Great pic. Very similar to the way people in the dark ages raised their kids. They hung them on the walls until they were old enough to walk and left them there all day, letting them potty in their clothes and only changing them once a day. At least that is what I have read about it.

...people in the dark ages raised their kids...

Sounds pretty enlightened to me...

From Wiki:
Originally the term characterized the bulk of the Middle Ages, or roughly the 6th to 13th centuries, as a period of intellectual darkness between the extinguishing of the "light of Rome" after the end of Late Antiquity, and the rise of the Italian Renaissance in the 14th century. This definition is still found in popular usage, but increased recognition of the accomplishments of the Middle Ages since the 19th century has led to the label being restricted in application. Since the 20th century, it is frequently applied only to the earlier part of the era, the Early Middle Ages (c. 5th–10th century). However, many modern scholars who study the era tend to avoid the term altogether for its negative connotations, finding it misleading and inaccurate for any part of the Middle Ages.

I was going to use the term middle ages but most people understand what “dark ages” refers to. Since my comment was actually how babies were treated during that time, and not about the correct usage of the name, I think you are a little over the top sending me a lecture on the correct terminology for the “dark ages”.

Meh...I just avoid bringing my kids onto planes...especially since they have become more impersonal overall. We can’t afford to take flights anywhere anyways. Car rides are way more fun!

Most people understand the incorrect usage of the term with the bad connotation. I sent the correction to benefit all of mankind, not as a lecture to you.

Well Pardon me, I didn't realize that all mankind had access to your FReeper comments. Must be nice to have such a large audience. You might want to consider getting some help for that megalomania, it could develop into something serious.

When all my kids were young, my girlfriend/neighbor had a rule, when my kids were in her house, she was the boss, and when her kids were in my house I was the boss....Worked out great as each set of parents may have different rules for their kids in the house...

humor
1. The quality that makes something laughable or amusing; funniness: could not see the humor of the situation.

2. That which is intended to induce laughter or amusement: a writer skilled at crafting humor.

3. The ability to perceive, enjoy, or express what is amusing, comical, incongruous, or absurd.
