Player cheats, refs miss it. Hockey player's ridiculously sneaky move (video)
sports.yahoo.com ^ | 4-5-12 | By Harrison Mooney | Puck Daddy

The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings may have clinched a playoff spot well before Thursday's game ended, but they certainly didn't play like it. It was a hard-fought battle right to the final horn and then some, with the Sharks narrowly edging their divisional rivals 6-5 in a shootout.

But don't let the high score fool you into thinking there weren't any big defensive plays. Why, Ryane Clowe's pokecheck on Jarrett Stoll with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd period stands out, and not just because it broke up a very threatening-looking 3-on-2 rush and potentially saved a game-winning goal. It was also the fact that Clowe was on the bench at the time:

Two things: First, this is the best use of waving red arrows in the history of waving red arrows. Second, let no one ever again claim the Sharks don't do what it takes to win. Ryane Clowe straight up cheats. Not since Wacky Races have I seen such dastardly behavior.

When asked about the play, Clowe responded, "I don't know what you're talking about."

I'm a Chiefs fan so this type of play is cool with me.

The refs didn’t catch him, so they can’t call him on it.

I honestly don’t mind little plays like that. It makes the game more interesting.

(Ah, the NHL has now officially entered into its "Roller Derby" and "Big Time Wrestling" phase...and Ryane Clowe has agreed to play one of the roles of "Villain" to provoke the fans and get them to pay more attention to the game...Hey, when economic times get rough, the rough "STICK it OUT!" Right?)

The league should suspend him. They penalize players all the time for calls not made on the ice. Cheating is not something that should be tolerated - that’s the leftist way.

The league should suspend him.

Suspend him for what amounts to too many men on the ice - get real. Its a two minute bench penalty and a five or ten minute misconduct. The play was not that threatening and what it really did is get inside the head of the Kings players. This is playoff hockey - face washes, late bumps, marginal cross checks after the whistle, light slashing above the shin pad - its all mind games and it is all "cheating" or as hockey fans call it the playoffs.

Did you just say VCR?

Yes, I said VCR. But I gave up on that effort. The tape was jumping and wriggling and I forget what button I push to fix it.

That is alright. I am listening to a Jethro Tull 8-Track in my bar tonight that the tin foil “change channel” feature fell off. I have to get up after 4 songs and hit the “Track” button way too often. Gotta love the olde school $hit.

8 track. Oh my. had to shove a match book between the tape and the unit so it would play.

Love it when the track changes in the middle of a song.

Have fun with that. I have an 8 track in my garage and a tape. I may go play hook it up. In a gotta de vida is the one 8 track tape I have.

I love Diane Rigg but I have to say I didn't see most of the bond movies, so didn't know she was in one...

she was special on the Avengers....

we haven't got even 10% of the quality actors that we had even 30 yrs ago....and the ones that are good, struggle to find major roles..

” Cheating is not something that should be tolerated - that’s the leftist way.”

Yeah, but it was two California teams. The LA Times already blamed Bush for it.

I agree that something should be done, for the sake of justice and to serve as a deterrent for this kind of nonsense in the future. However, the NHL may not have a mechanism in place to do this. Suspensions involving plays on the ice (including those that do not involve a penalty at the time) are aimed almost exclusively at attempts to injure, so I'm not sure what kind of urgency the NHL would have in dealing with this.

There's a possibility that the NHL could institute (immediately) a new rule or clarification of an existing rule that would potentially allow for suspensions after the fact. There's also a possibility that NHL on-ice officials might just "overlook" a serious act of retribution against Ryan Clowe in the Sharks' next game.

The biggest issue right now is that the NHL has to eliminate any incentive a team might have to try this kind of crap in the future.

Same here, but I consider hockey to be aking to "professional" wrestling - the side shows are more interesting than the main action.

Watch James Bond’s ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’. You will love her even more. She was great! She really matched Bond’s intelligence, wit, and personality. That is why Bond fell in love with her during the movie.
