I wonder if “lost” is an excuse to not list the expensive rings on the list of assets. Debts of 6.7M offset by 6.45M in assets doesn’t sound like a huge gap to me. What’s the big deal?

Bingo. This story has been told a hundred times. Newfound wealth draws con-men like sh*t draws flies. The athlete is usually a simple person who is easily taken in by pseudo "friends" and "advisors" and such. Happens with every boxer, and not a few others. Dennis Rodman is another example.
