Petrino reportedly fired as Arkansas football coach
Published April 10, 2012
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The University of Arkansas fired football coach Bobby Petrino on Tuesday, according to an ESPN report.
The reported move comes after Petrino failed to disclose that a 25-year-old female employee of the football program was with him when he crashed his motorcycle April 1.
The 51-year-old, who is married with four children, admitted to a "previous inappropriate relationship" in a public apology for trying to hide the fact that Jessica Dorrell was with him at the time.
A press conference was due to be held later Tuesday at which Razorbacks athletic director Jeff Long was expected to announce Petrino would no longer serve as coach.
Dorrell was unhurt in the wreck, but Petrino suffered serious injuries, including a cracked vertebrae and four broken ribs.
Dorrell, who is reportedly engaged to the school's director of swimming and diving operations, was hired in March by Petrino as a student-athlete development coordinator.
Petrino was entering his fifth season as coach of the Razorbacks, with the team going 21-5 over the past two years.

One of the three P’s usually gets ‘em - Power, Pennies, or Pu$$y.
The university did the right thing. Parents send their young, impressionable athletes away from home for the first time and deserve to have a coach with character who helps instill work ethic, honesty, and fair play in their kids. That is not too much for which to ask.
We Atlatans can only wish the carpetbagger happy trails...
I am a bit confused. Adultery, while a sin, is not illegal. Nor, is failure to tell your boss who was with you in a crash illegal. Why is what he did grounds for dismissal?
There must be more to this story.
This Bullies fan is happy.
Freeper verdicts require pics......
The young woman half his age got her job, paid by the taxpayers, because she was his sex toy. He lied about it to his boss.
There was a “morals” clause in his contract. That clause was just for situations like this.
He’s a weird looking guy.
That explains it.
I asked my hubby about it. He said that this is just the excuse; that Petrino is basically a jerk and they wanted him gone.
We live in a day and age where “sin” isn’t a dirty word and “legal” makes it right. Thanks for posting this story.
I’m not sure they wanted to get rid of him. But under the circumstances I don’t think they had a choice. He hired his mistress. But being an arrogant jerk certainly didn’t help his case.
I was not on board when they hired him and a good friend of mine was on the Board of Regents at the time and was intrumental in hiring him. I thought he’d bolt for a better opportunity. And he probably would have eventually if he hadn’t had a motorcycle wreck.
When you are an offensive genius, you get a job in the NFL.
When you get a job in the NFL, you lose games. When you lose games, you take a job at Arkansas.
When you live in Arkansas, you get bored. When you get
bored, you go looking for strange.
When you go looking for strange, you find strange. When you find strange, you take it for a ride on your motorcycle.
When you take strange for a ride on your motorcycle, she
reaches around and grabs your junk.
When she grabs your junk, you wreck your motorcycle.
When you wreck your motorcycle, you end up at a press
conference in a neck brace.
Don’t end up at a press conference in a neck
brace...switch from cable and upgrade to DirecTV.
Well, hog fans, get ready for some crappy years. Reminds me of when Hatfield left right at the time for signing recruits. I wonder how many recruits will now go somewhere else.
I went to high school with Petrino and knew just about everyone in his family. Sure he maybe an a$$hole, but it’s hard to be humble when you’re the finest. At 5’9” (if that) and maybe 190# he was the best quarterback in MT AA (state champion) and NAIA football. He was taller and outweighed his center (my brother) in high school.
BUT!!! Agree with the carpetbagger label, figured if he left Arkansas before the term of his contract he’d be blacklisted for the rest of his career.
Great! Now my Red Raiders have their FB coach-in-waiting. Lubbock is where washed up coaches go to fade away...
mayhem, like me.
Outstanding work sir!
