A female rhino named Elizabeth caused panic among residents when it left its animal conservancy home in Namibia and entered communal farms, a resident said.
The Ministry of the Environment and Tourism dispatched a team to try to recapture the rhino, which lives at the Khoadi-Hoas Conservancy in the Kunene Region, New Era reported.
"The rhino was running around in the road, chasing after cars and even people," an area resident said.
Elizabeth was among several rhinos relocated to communal conservancies three years ago.
She was spotted among cattle on a farm in the area, and ministry staff members were at the farm guarding the rhino until it can be returned home.
Rhinos have been targeted by poachers in the region, especially South Africa, where hundreds of rhinos are killed for their horns annually.
In Namibia, local, national and international anti-poaching efforts have been undertaken.
