President Hugo Chávezs Cuban doctors have already told him that he will most likely not be alive by Octobers elections. Its not a certainty but a statistical estimate. People his age who are affected by the aggressive cancer that afflicts him, complicated by the generalized metastasis that has spread, usually have only a few months to live. It is only a macabre average.
One of Chávezs first reactions was to phone a friendly chief of state to tell him about it. Hereafter, he will do increasingly stranger things. Like any other moribund person, he needs encouragement, compassion, loving pats on the back.
An old friend of mine, a specialist in helping terminally ill patients die, a woman who practices her melancholy and necessary profession in a major hospital, insisted that people need, more than words of comfort, someone who will hold their hand when their time comes to leave this world. This final contact, skin to skin, is mysteriously comforting. It reduces the fear caused by looking into the unfathomable abyss.
Precisely: Moribund persons experience different fears. They fear the speedy destruction of their body. They have lived being dependent on it. They have taken care of it, washed it, protected it, displayed it with pride, and suddenly deterioration, instead of being gradually perceptible, has forced itself upon them.

Shame...I wanted the people of Venezuela to take him out.
Despite the evil he has done, he still has a chance to repent and turn to Jesus Christ to avoid eternal damnation.
Huuuuugo.......oh.....Huuuuuugo......where you going?
Turn about is fair play!
I hope get’s what he gave in spades!
His new nickname should be worm turd.
No. He needs to step down and stop wrecking his country. Then he needs to confess, repent, and make good his soul with God before he dies.
Why would anyone want to pat a Communist dictator on the back?
That’s entirely up to Jesus Christ, and none of my concern.
Meanwhile...the damnation (temporary or not) that he so richly deserves, is soon to be visited upon him!
I won’t be sending any prayers his way.
In so far as I have compassion for any person by virtue of being one of God’s children, I give that to Hugo Chavez. But I will not pretend that he is a good or valuable person, and I will not pretend that his being alive is of any benefit to the people he dominates or the world which he soils.
I will pray that he finds final penitence, and that he assumes room temperature as soon as possible.
An oncologist needs to be part cheerleader; it helps optimize patient outcome. 12 days before my wife died of dancer they told us she had 6-8 months. Three days later this was revised to 4 weeks. 9 days later she died.
Such predictions are usually very optimistic.
Chavez won’t live to October?
And people say there isn’t a God...
:D
Do I smell sulphur???????
I honestly don't give a rip what Hugo Chavez needs. His country needed a leader and it got a ego-swollen, murderous demagogue. Goodbye, Huey, you won't be missed.
It does not help such a prognosis when the patient tries to conceal his condition with the help of painkillers, amphetamines and steroids. If anything, Hugo has sped up the process somewhat.
Likely the big cue will be when he goes from “steroid puffy” to “scrawny” in just a week or two. From there it is just a race to “concentration camp” before he pegs.
“he will never get the amount of agony he deserves for the EVIL he has done to the innocent...”
As a 12 year Christian cancer survivor, I cannot, support your view. What ever has has done will be dealt with after his death.
