WASHINGTON -- When a boat springs a leak, it's often the Coast Guard to the rescue. But who rescues the Coast Guard when one its new ships does the same thing?
Capt. Charles Cashin, who commands the Coast Guard's newest national security cutter, the Stratton, said he called in engineers last month when his crew discovered a trio of "pinholes" and a fourth hole "slightly smaller than a golf ball" in the ship's hull.

Those are just code words for what the Coast Guard guys really think of the Sasquatch’.
Made in China?
Not your next duty station ping.
I know one of the officers on that boat, and he said all sorts of things about it. Not sure why this information needs to be on the news, though.

For some reason many new US ship designs are running into serious problems. Besides the Stratton (third ship in her class), the USS San Antonio’s design and building defects took years to “resolve” and she’ll probably never live up to her intended capabilities (she’s the lead ship of her class, iirc there was a study that said that all the bugs found in her wouldn’t be resolved until the fourth or fifth unit). Then there’s the USS Independence (LCS-2) that had significant early corrosion issues.
On top of that, there were design flaws in the Burke-class destroyers that have caused early superstructure cracks on class-members that have seen a degree of “slamming” (result of maneuvering through high sea states).
It all brings to mind Admiral Beatty’s comment at Jutland that “(t)here seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today” ...
Chevy trucks had a very bad rust problem for a model year that was blamed on too much recycled steel.I don’t know enough about metals to understand why.
But I do know steel can be made poorly or well, brittle or ductile, and with varying amounts of corrosion resistance.
OOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...................AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....she looks so gorgeous. [What was she wearing?]....she wore a Peter Som dress with a striped, pastel bodice and a sparkly silver skirt.
She christened the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton ship, breaking a champagne bottle on the boat after two swings. [Good thing she had practice earlier this week!]
Her arms! They look so trim and muscular and fit! ....Sigh!...Oooooooooooooooooooooo....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....
Par for the course with this admin, I guess.
*sigh*
It’s under the extended warranty. Everything will get fixed after the 100 million dollar deductible is paid...
Well, the AP is a liberal outlet, so the underlying goal is probably to stop buying new ships at all, because why do we need to guard our coasts anyway, when the whole world just luvs the Obamas.
All of the equipment that the American soldier/sailor/Coastie uses to defend our freedom is manufactured by the CHEAPEST BIDDER.
They are keeping them too close to the water.
