Biking Kenowa Hills seniors punished (Senior prank rolled over school officials' toes)

As high school seniors get set to walk commencement, toilets are exploding, lockers are getting graffitied and doors are getting super-glued.

The vandalism is part of the tradition known as senior pranks.

But a decision by Kenowa Hills seniors to do something a lot less harmful has drawn the ire of their principal.

The plan was to hold a bike parade as a nice, non-destructive, healthy senior prank.

Seniors called police for an escort, and even called Walker's mayor, who rode in the parade.

"Police escort, with the mayor, who brought us donuts. ...The mayor brought us donuts..." said a group of seniors following the ride.

But school official weren't told in advance, hence the word prank, and were not happy with the event.

They kicked the seniors out of school for their last day and threatened to keep them from walking in graduation ceremonies set for May 30.

Police escort and the Mayor riding with the kids had no concern about their safety - yet the egomaniac in charge of the screwell just could not stand having her last tiny little bit of authority challenged.

It has been a couple of days since this occurred. Why does this principal still have a job?

This crap really makes me mad.

I don’t want the SuperIntendant and Principle “fired”.

When a student attends classes, and successfully completes grades 1-12, receiving a passing grade in all required courses; Graduation is not a ‘gift’ given by a benevolent, kind and loving member of the school faculty - it is something that has been EARNED. Much like a paycheck.

If your Boss was upset because you didn’t drive to work in an approved manner, he can fire you. That’s fine. But, he owes you the paycheck for the work you have performed.

My view is simple. Treat this as 100+ cases of Petty theft, toss him in jail for 30 days; strip him his certification for he is unworthy of his responsibility and fire him for gross negligence of authority.

Then, hold the Senior Graduation as scheduled.

In the principal's tirade, she complained about the two mile, 5-mph backup caused by the procession, which made staff and students late.

I suspect the real cause of her anger was her being stuck in traffic behind the procession and forced to slowly follow it.

"Kenowa Hills Superintendent Gerald Hopkins admitted to 24 Hour News 8 the reaction and punishment from school officials was as much showing them who's in charge as it was reacting to problems they claim were caused by the prank."

What a moron. The students dared to defy his authority and rode bicycles to school!

I think this is great, bike parade. The school officials need to get over themselves. Kind of like the post-it notes at a school in Indiana and the student’s got suspended. In both of these, no one got hurt and there was no damage.
