The man who creates these videos is Randy Halverson and he runs a website called DakotaLapse.com. He does this time lapse video as a hobby and he was recently featured on the Eye on KELOLAND segment on KELO here in Sioux Falls recently. This is some amazing stuff. This is best watched on full screen.

Temporal Distortion.
I see that all the time when watching Youtube videos. I think it is their media player interface. The picture freezes or colors streak down the page like an LSD trip, sound gets out of ‘time’.
During a drive over into West Virginai, heading for the Greenbank Observatory, I drove into a valley surrounded by low hills one night. It was a Moonless cloudless night in early October, air temp about forty degrees, 11:30PM. I had to stop the Rodeo and turn off the lights and get get my then wife out to witness one of the most amazing sights I had even enjoyed. There was no ambient light in the visiaul field naywhere in that little valley. The Milky Way was stretched from horizon to horizon and the starlight was so bright that I could point out cows in the distance and when I dropped some change on the ground digging out my keys, I could see that I had only dropped pennies! We stood at the rear of my vehicle for twenty minutes, just awestruck, until a vehicle happened over the horizon, coming our way on the road. I got the most amazing feeling standing there, like I was standing in the bottom of this ginormous drinking glass and was so tiny and so far away from all that light that I was invisible. I suppose that’s what ‘they’ mean when they say they were immersed in the beauty of something. Only had that experience one other time.

I’ve been using the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly for over a year, and on dozens of timelapse setups. In my opinion, it is the best dolly made for shooting timelapse, and the price can’t be beat. The MX2 controller does a lot for such a small package, and has performed excellent in extreme conditions.
The 6 foot rail will give your timelapse a lot of motion, and gives it the “walking through it look”. I have let it bounce around in the back of a pickup on rough gravel roads, dirt roads and even off-road. I’ve hauled it on the back of a ATV through brush, used it in sub zero weather, and even dropped it a few times. In all of that use, I may have lost a few thumbscrews, but the dollies have performed great.
