A wonderful thought but not the way I see it. If Mayweather hangs around, he will lose. If Pacquiao's shocking loss wakes him up, that might be it, provided they ever get into the ring. If Canelo Alvarez can put off the fight for a couple of years and avoid growing out of the weight class, he's the one that I'd put my money on to get the job done.

I've been a boxing fan, off and on, since the Ali-Frazier fight. A great time to get attracted to boxing - some great fighters in that era for those who suddenly realized that there were other weight classes as well. Great champions: Ali, Frazier, and Foreman (heavyweight), Bob Foster (light-heavy), Carlos Monzon (middleweight), Jose Napolez (welterweight), Eder Jofre (featherweight), Reuben Olivares (bantamweight) and the emergence of possibly the most exciting of them all, Roberto Duran (lightweight). Four or five of those guys are possibly the best their weight classes have ever seen.

Horse racing had a tremendous run in the 1970s with Secretariat, Affirmed, Alydar, Seattle Slew, Spectacular Bid.
