"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Hey, Vision! I accidentally FReepmailed that last comment to you. Didn’t mean to.
Anyway, I hope you’ve had a good week. We are not barbecuing tonight, since we have had about 5 1/4 inches of rain in the past two days. I bought a rain gauge on Friday, so I’m happy to try it out!

You need the rain right? We could use some, the shrubs are looking thirsty, I probably put out 50 - 75 gallons of water out today...by hand.
I've been eating flat iron steak all weekend...grilled over charcoal and a little cherry wood.
Baltimore starts the bicentennial of the war of 1812 this week. All types of ships, blue angels, stuff is happening. Damn Brits were quite nasty 200 years ago.

We did need some rain, even though our rainfall has been better than last year, so far.
You have the good leftover flat iron steak. I’ve never had anything smoked with cherry wood. I’ll bet it’s really fine!
I wish I could see the 1812 celebrations there. That must be something to see!

Hi,
Glad to see you too! Hope you both had a good week. It was a busy time here. We’ve been following through with Spring cleaning. Threw things out and took a bunch of stuff to Good Will.
It was a hot day and went up into the 90’s.

Listening to this makes me think of deceased family members who were probably huddled around the radio listening. They were praying for our soldiers.

If they said, “2500 are dead and 10000 wounded” the public would freak. No the public’s effort was better focused praying with the President.
Today, the NY Times, NBC, ABC, CNN, etc would be saying “2500 are dead in one morning! Hitler is reasonable, we're acting like the cowboys. Bring them home before we invade Germany to the north at 1400 hours on June 8th.”

Evening, folks.........

"As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
--H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920
To: Vision
Yes, Vision, I did imagine they kept the terrible reality down for the sake of those back home. It is still a brutal truth that would eventually come out.
You’re right. Prayer, prayer, prayer. The Lord only knows how much worse it could have been.
You are so right about how the modern-day reporting would be! The dirty vermin media rats!
