Incredibly, Tonka Trucks is the latest toy brand thats set to be turned into a movie.
Plans for the Tonka Trucks movie from Sony follows the success of 'Transformers' and the not-so-successful 'Battleship' movie.
The Tonka line of colourful trucks was originally created in 1947, with the iconic yellow and black vehicles becoming a standard plaything for toddlers across the world.
Sony are looking to produce an animated film, which would cut costs by a considerable margin, and have hired writer Fred Wolf to come up with a script.
In its 65 years, Tonka has become more than a toy or a brand; Tonka trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world, said Bob Osher, the head of Sony Pictures digital productions
Time spent with these toys creates memories that last a lifetime as kids are inspired to play using the boundaries of their imagination. We look forward to creating a family-friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life.
Hasbro currently has two other properties in development at Sony. The American-centric board game Candy Land and the world-domination strategy classic Risk.

It's almost like Hasbro doesn't owns other properties that actually have characters or stories. Properties that have been recently revitalized and done very well.
They had a terrific QC department with many unique QC tests.
I was told that one of their "tests" on new materials was to piss on the product and see how it held up.
Boys will be boys.
Oh, there are still a few creative ideas.
For example, they haven’t made either an Erector Set or Leggo movie yet. No word on the Lincoln Logs epic - probably expect that sometime next summer.
Maybe DreamWorks can do something with CandyLand.
This is perhaps the biggest reason I enjoyed “House on the Hill” so much. It was CREATIVE and both scary and funny. It was so refreshing to see this genre of movie do something creative and original. Needed more mermen.
Candy Land is already under development by Sony...
If they're desperate it should sell.
Capt N Crunch The Island of the Lost Crunchberries.
Count Chocula and Frankenberry plot to kidnap Capt' Crunch and turn him into Granola bars...or something.
Now you just need to work in some gratuitous sex and nudity.
My guess is that the Tonka trucks in the movie will be “green”. Anyone want to bet against me on this?
I hope they keep it for children under about age 7 and don’t make it scary.
John Deere has some kids’ videos that do it right.
The Tonka Big Book of Trucks taught me just about everything I know about heavy equipment and trucks. I had to read that every night to my son when he was two. I know that playing with and learning all about those trucks helped him become the smart 10 year old he is today.
Is anyone really surprised? They released a movie based on a game: Battle Ship.
“And the award for Best Picture goes to- Slinky”.
Maybe it’s just my eyesight going, but that Tonka truck on the left appears to be made with cheap plastic. Real Tonka trucks are made with metal.
I bet you’re right. The Tonka Trucks plot will revolve around defeating the evil oil companies and going green.
I just read a review of the new “Dallas” series. Even the New York Times is panning it for being cliche’.
JR’s son is an evil oilman, while Bobby’s son is working towards a green solution.
