So so soft neck varieties usually mature faster than hard neck types? Is that the main difference between them?

We are finished with our Strawberries - Mainly due to lack of water. We get lots of berries in May early June. We could get more if we irrigated, but we just water enough to keep them alive for next season.

I would really like to put in a cistern. We usually get plenty of spring rain, but always have dry July and August.
This year, our dry season began in May.

Main thing we are collecting right now is wild blackberries. We have loads of bushes in the backyard. We have eaten 2 cobblers already, and I have 5 quarts in the refrigerator for canning or making jelly.

After reading up on the growing garlic in the south I would say the stiff neck like Spanish Roja or any the the Creoles would be best down there. What area do you garden in? Were you up in Canada?
