For those of you blessed to carry concealed, what do you carry, and why?

Posted on 06/15/2012 9:17:21 PM PDT by LouAvul

My primary carry piece is a Sig P239 DAK SAS in 9mm. It's about the largest weapon I can carry concealed in warm weather. The mag holds 8 w/1 in the pipe.

You?

I was stopped for doing 52 mph in a 40 mph zone. I gave the cop my license and CHL as required. He asked if I had guns in the vehicle. I said I had a Glock 27 in my waist belt, a Walther P99 in the center console, and a Mossberg 590 in the trunk. He said those were nice guns and to slow it down a bit. He let me off with no ticket. He even called me sir.

Most likely all shootings have their own “Norm” unto them selves. As far as accuracy is concerned, once law enforcement made the switch from revolvers to pistols their accuracy fell by almost 50% as they used the “Spray n’ Pray” shooting technique.

Also with a revolver you do not need to wonder or second guess yourself as to did you rack the slide, is it on safe or is it ready to go. Those are things that can really screw up a gun fight. My wife and daughter both carry revolvers(.357) because they do not want to have to remember all that goes with a pistol for it to work.

As far as if the perp brings friends, Well Maybe your hypothetical means your screwed.

You can read over and over again in the NRA mag’s where 70 - 88 year old’s are taking on two plus and dropping the home invaders, so if they can do it so should we be able to.

WW2 German Walther P-38. I inherited it from my father.

“Really! That I didn’t know. I just assumed it was my liberal state without really looking into it.”

Actually, Mark Twain corrected me. I went and looked up the Youth Handgun Safety Act (federal). The age is 18. So I was wrong. Below that, federal law prohibits ownership or possession with some exceptions (farm or ranch, training, target shooting).

The Glock 27, .40 cal rocks. I just got one and it practically shoots itself. In move and shoot, the sights seem to magically align themselves and the recoil is no worse than a 9mm. I’m getting very attached to it quickly. I’ll double check. I think it’s 8+1.

The only downside is a pretty stiff slide. So you have to carry with a round chambered or risk not having a shot in an emergency.

“...they’re not going to even have time to notice anybody unless such an one is buying 20 guns at a time...”

About not noticing, you are likely correct. And one could buy ‘20 at a time’ (over a weekend) at many gun shows and still not be noticed...

Here in Ohio I can go to the sheriff in any adjacent county for the permit...does not have to be in my county of residence.

“...once law enforcement made the switch from revolvers to pistols their accuracy fell by almost 50%...”

My son, 8 yrs in the Corps, and now more years as a deputy sheriff, carries a 357 revolver as a duty weapon and beats ‘em all on the range, including reloading. However, if the XD were approved by the department, that would be his choice...in 45 acp.

The Commander is my back up...I carry a 92f but need to replace the recoil spring. I guess after 5000 rounds and 25 years it just wore out.
A girl I know wants to replace her S&W Chiefs special with a 9mm auto. Might buy that for ankle carry.

Yeah, the WWII CAP’ers were actually part of the war effort, patrolling for subs off the coast. One time, they even tried to drop a bomb on one they spotted in the Atlantic!

glock slim line model 36 ,, in 45 acp ( its tiny and really does not have too much recoil )
or colt defender series 90 also 45 acp
( a little bulkier but super good quality as well )
both fit real well in the front pocket of my cargo shorts

my wife carries model 642 air weight smith n wesson with factory laser sight ( its a 38 special , however it has a lot of recoil due to the light weight )

“Additionally, you must be 21+ to own a handgun in my state.”

True but here one can have a concealed carry at 18. Just cannot own it.
