It was perhaps Reagan’s best movie, not at all maudlin but still just too sad for me.

When the play debuted in London Todd had the part of Yank and had to mimic a midwest accent. In the movie the first choice for the Scot was Gordon Jackson, but the producers liked Todd’s stage performance as Yank, but needed an American name for the US audience so he became the Scot. And you’re right about Reagan’s work in the film. Haven’t seen it for a long time so maybe I’ll give it some time.For all his liberal insanity, I have to thank Turner for TCM.
