Inmate shoots himself while behind bars

CRITTENDEN COUNTY, AR (WMC-TV) – An inmate locked up in the Crittenden County Jail went to the doctor with what he called a spider bite. It was actually a gunshot wound he received while behind bars.

Robert Turner, Jr. is awaiting trial on an aggravated robbery charge. He is accused of shooting someone during a 2011 home invasion.

He is locked up in the Crittenden County Jail, where he was shot in the knee on Saturday.

Crittenden County Chief Deputy Mike Callender said Robert shot himself with a small Raven 25-caliber pistol that was likely smuggled in by at least one of the three former jailers who were arrested one week ago for smuggling items into the jail.

"The case that we built against the jailers involved the cell phones, the cigarettes, stuff like that. Nobody asked about a gun. There was no indication anybody had a gun," said Chief Callender. "It was back there. We just didn't ask the right questions, obviously."

I read a review on a Women’s self-defence pistol that shot this shell. The author utterly flamed the pistol and the ammo. The most memorial quote from the article was:

“This is the ammo you should use, to soften up your opponent for the fist-fight that will follow”.

I have seen it used a few times in bars, it takes the steam out of guys and they lay down and look tired and pensive, which is a different look than the guys shot with more powerful pistols, those guys look like they are dying and in terror and torment, I’ve never seen a guy die from a .25 before he was carted away.

Years ago, I ordered a Seekamp .32acp. At the time there was an estimated 5-10 month lead time on the Seekamp so, in the interim. I bought a used Beretta 950 in .25acp.

Quite honestly, the .25acp is an embarrassment. In a world with .22Lr there is absolutely no need for such a round. It is more annoyance than threat.
