The Bear at the Door

Russian strategic nuclear bombers threatened U.S. airspace near Alaska earlier this month and F-15 jets responded by intercepting the aircraft taking part in large-scale arctic war games, according to defense officials.

The Russian war games began the same day President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a frosty summit meeting in Mexico June 18.

U.S. officials said the arctic exercises over the Russian Far East and Pacific appeared to be a further sign of Russia’s hardening posture toward the United States.

The Obama administration made no protest of the bomber intrusions, according to the officials, in line with its conciliatory “reset” policy of seeking warmer ties with Moscow.

Hillary must have reset it back to chilly. Gertz is an excellent and serious national security journalist. Is this the first anyone has heard of this war game and intrusion into Alaskan airspace? I guess if Palin was still governor there, we would have heard about it! You bet ya!

Is it claimed that the Russians actually entered the air space over Alaska? I would not be surprised if Russia did overfly Alaska as this administration has implicitly declared to the world that it is open to foreign incursions; i.e. Mexico is invading America and nothing is being done. As an aside it is merely a matter of time until demand is made that the Southwest be returned to Mexico.

RE:Russia

This may need it's own thread... Executive Order issued by BO 6-25-12

"....national security and foreign policy of the United States, and hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat. I hereby order:..."

"...A major national security goal of the United States is to ensure that fissile material removed from Russian nuclear weapons pursuant to various arms control and disarmament agreements is dedicated to peaceful uses, subject to transparency measures, and protected from diversion to activities of proliferation concern...."

The Bear is quite an aircraft, the Russki equivalent of the B-52 despite its propjet nature.

It’s got the range.
It’s got the payload.
It’s got the speed.
It’s got the altitude.
And, as an added bonus,
It’s got the deaf crew.

Is this the first anyone has heard of this war game and intrusion into Alaskan airspace?

" U.S. and Canadian F-15 and F-16 jets were involved in the intercepts that took place near the Air Identification Zone surrounding Alaskan airspace over the northern Pacific. "

I don't think this means "Alaskan airspace" per se.

This is what happens when there is no leadership. Obama is crap in the middle of the cow path. I know I’m not the only Vet that has slept in rice paddys and was ambushed by little people in black pajamas. Only to have our country betraied by a jerk that thinks basketball and golf are his most important job. He has to go. We need someone like Sarah Palin. She can see Putin from her back porch and would most likely get a shot off.
