CBS Radio Flipping WODS/Boston To CHR 103.3 AMP Radio

CBS Radio announces it is flipping Classic Hits WODS/Boston to CHR as "103.3 AMP Radio," effective tomorrow (June 28) at noon. The new station will feature hits from Rihanna, Usher, Maroon 5, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj, among others. The station will be available on-air, online at 1033ampradioboston.com and via mobile apps including iPhone and Android devices.

"When looking at the habits of Boston radio listeners, it is clear the music most favored by the biggest group of people is contemporary hit music,” said Mark Hannon, SVP/Market Manager for CBS

Radio-Boston. "Boston’s New 103.3 AMP Radio will serve the audience with all of the hits from artists topping the charts, and create a number of ways for listeners to interact with the station – from live events to special appearances and contests."

The launch of 103.3 AMP Radio

will be led by a team of programmers including Mike Thomas, VP of Programming for CBS Radio-Boston, along with Michael Martin, VP of CHR Programming for CBS Radio. A full-time PD for the station, as well as the line-up of live and local talent, will be named at a later date.

As for WODS's previous

Classic Hits format, it will move to the frequency's HD-2 multicast channel, and still be heard online at wods.com.

Flip is at noon tomorrow. DJs already let go I think (incl. JJ Wright, Barry "Lost 45s" Scott). Announcements on air about a "new choice" for radio listeners. Those who listen to WODS now may find their kids will be listening after noon tomorrow

WCBS-FM in NYC flipped from oldies to some ridiculous format years back. It flipped back within two years. here we go again.

(And Mark Simone got another radio gig out of that, with WABC's Saturday Night Oldies, which is still around even though WCBS has been back for years.)

I think you’re right. I have heard what I think is this “contemporary hit music” and it seems to lack a basic component of music: a melody.

Also, maybe my ears are fooling me but each female “vocalist” sounds identical to the others. This is also true of the male “vocalists.”

All in all, I think it’s just awful. Too bad the youngsters of today have only this to listen to.
