If I may ask, and if it’s not too personal, which madhhab would you say is most representative of your though? Hanafi, Maliki, Hanbali, Shaf’i? Or do you follow one at all? Sunni or Shi’a?
I’ve known tons of Muslims, mostly Turkish (Sufis - Naqshbandi) and an Amaddiyah chap from Pakistan. I’ve also worked with a couple guys from U.A.E., mellow sorts who lived here in the Czech Republic.
I can honestly say I only ever met a couple of fellows that gave me that “hmmm....these guys may be up to something nefarious” feeling. That was a gut feeling more than anything else. So naturally, I stayed away from them.
My neighbor, when I lived in Berlin, was a Sufi sheikh. And optometrist. His brother was a dentist. I lived just above a Sufi center, and every so often would go to dhikr. Nice folks, really good natured and welcoming to all.

I too lived in Ankara for two years but it was post-AKP. I suspect you wouldn’t recognize it now and I assure you there are no Turks demonstrating against Erdogan and his thugs now. The country is on a fast downward spiral and in less than five years will be unrecognizable to those of us who either lived there or visited frequently.
That doesn't seem very convincing, or as having any depth or familiarity, or any feeling with the site, or it's themes, or it's temperament or anything.
It appears to be a drive by, "hi, I'm a Muslim, discuss among yourselves" first and only post.

I flew for the IDF and had the pleasure of training with very fine Turkish pilots in the USA, and have remained friends with them. All career officers.
To a man, they have fled to the USA, England, wherever. They say the wheels are falling off the bus, fast.
(And, yes, they were muslim, of some variety that did not want to kill Israelis.)
Conservatism and Islam are not compatible. It is impossible to subjugate women and be a conservative, not to mention the many, many other things wrong with Islam.

A college classmate married a muslim guy from Jordan last year. She has kept her Christian faith and does not plan on changing-she is not real religious anyway and neither is he. I always thought muslims did not drink but there was some drunk ones at the wedding. Must be like any religion some more serious than others.
Did your daughter become a muslim?..no hate, just curious more than anything.
