1) Consume in small, frequent amounts.
Between 20-200mg per hour may be an optimal dose for cognitive function.
2) Play to your cognitive strengths while wired. Caffeine may increase the speed with which you work, may decrease attentional lapses, and may even benefit recall - but is less likely to benefit more complex cognitive functions, and may even hurt others. Plan accordingly (and preferably prior to consuming caffeine!)
3) Play to caffeine's strengths.
Caffeine's effects can be maximized or minimized depending on what else is in your system at the time. (Definitely add sugar. Grapefruit juice may prolong the effects of caffeine, while nicotine may speed up the body's metabolism of it.)
4) Know when to stop - and when to start again.

I’l be sure to let my doctor know this on Friday when I go for my annual check-up.
More than three mugs per week or one in a day and it aggrevates the arthtitis in my tennis shoulder and golf knee. I don’t play either one anymore, too.
Sleep is for wimps. Healthy, well rested wimps, but wimps nonetheless...
My rule (at least in Ma. where all sizes are a buck) is if you are driving by a McDonalds, pull in, it’s time for another cup ( and it’s good).
Wait until Obamacare makes gun registration mandatory for required coverage, since it is a “threat to your health”. Then failure to register guns counts as insurance fraud.
This isn’t far fetched. My pediatrician per the AMA guidelines asked me about this several years ago until I told her “none of your business”.
My OBGYN was much more understanding. “I work in downtown Dallas, in IT, often coming in before the front desk is open or late in the evening. As an OBGYN, you should appreciate a patient taking measures to prevent rape.” He smiled, said he wished more patients were this responsible, and asked which range I practiced on.
Grapefruit juice? That’s just nasty.
That’s a shame, you can’t even enjoy a cup every morning. Wonder why it does that to you? I’m sorry you can’t enjoy your sports anymore!
Let me know how that works out.
I enjoy a big two tea bag mug of Twinings Breakfast tea with french vanilla creamer in the mornings.
