That was my guess: the Twilight Zone. Believe it was an episode with Jack Klugman (”In Praise of Pip”).
I was also thinking of the episode where a man was going to be hanged and it became eternal night wherever there was a lot of hate and IIRC, they mentioned Vietnam.
