Search Engines Don't Need To Be Leftist
Search Engine List ^ | 7/12/12 | Old Sarge

Okay, Folks, on a recent thread about the demise of NBC News, the following observation was made:

Google has gone far left. People are looking to leave Google, but the only real competition in a search engine is Bing, owned by MS. I have seen and made several comments about how I’d like to leave Google, but why hop to MS, of MSNBC?

Well, that got me thinking: what alternative search engines are out there?

The link I found provides a neat, but HUGE, rollup of various search engines, search sites and alternatives to the Leftist monoliths of the Web.

Personally, I rid myself of Google Chrome as my browser, and I now use Comodo Dragon, which I'm happy to say I'm pleased with its security features. I have also avoided Google as a search engine, and have been using Yahoo as both my email provider and my search engine.

“I have no suggestions” ping,

Dogpile seemed like a good idea but it’s 2/3rds advertising.
The first pages of all of them seem to be composed of only wikipedia, Ehow, other like sites, and ads.

450,000 Yahoo passwords just got hacked; find out if you might be affected
Security firm TrustedSec has found that more than 450,000 passwords have been exposed after a successful hack into Yahoo’s Voices website, the Guardian reports. Voices, formerly known as Associated Content before being purchased by Yahoo in 2010, is a news and analysis site that relies on user-generated content. The big problem with this particular hack, the Guardian says, is that “the passwords for the accounts were not encrypted — meaning that any hacker could scoop up the emails and immediately start using them against other services, including Yahoo Mail...

I don’t like the blekko link so much - has LA TIMES as first option? Not a conservative place by any means.

I’ve primarily used Dogpile for a few years, but have recently started using ASK.com at work. I like both.

Ron....you are clicking on the social search by Rock(SP?)
This search engine has no ads. It is unlike any other search engine out there. Type in a search and see what it returns.

I ran a quick test on DuckDuckGo, and it seems to do a good job finding relevant sites in that test. I might switch....

A financial site I read that gives advice about how to lower your profile suggested DuckDuckGo.com because it does not track.

Switched and never looked back.

After looking, I’m thinking about DuckDuckGo, too.

Does it do image searches as well?

Use Google — but just don’t click on any of their ads or sponsored links. That’s how they make their money.

Altavista was run/owned by a Freeper, which appears to be something you already know...

iirc, the AltiVista creator/founder is a freeper.

No, unfortunately not.

I use another another computer and AOL when I need to do an image search.

You can also download Do Not Track — a site I got from another FReeper to block web tracking:

This is timely.

I still use Google because until recently, it was the 500 lb canary of search engines. Just gave the best info for sports and hobbies & etc.

Now they have gone far left and you can’t even get middling stories on global warming or Obama, debt, Dems, gun control, etc. They have gone off the deep end.

I really need a neutral search engine, not left or right.

HELP!!!!

That pissed me off. Hijacking our patriotic independence day and substituting a commie song writer.

Google has gone evil.
