This part about interviewing one of the sons says a lot:
“He was standing on the sidewalk outside his apartment in a house on Blackstone Street, wearing bent glasses and a cut-off T-shirt. He is on disability because of heart trouble and does not work, he said. Several friends sat on the porch or in chairs outside his home, drinking from tall cans”
Blackstone is in the heart of the hood. Not quite Detroit but Detroit 30 years ago.
Crazy that Jackson is one of the reported birthplaces of the republican party. I’ve lived in Jackson county for my whole life but always huddled in rural corners of the county.
