LONDON (Reuters) - South Korea will face North Korea in the first round of the Olympics 2012 men's table tennis team event after a draw on Wednesday that pitted fierce rivals against each other.
South Korea are the second most successful nation in Olympic table tennis behind only powerhouse China, while North Korea rank as the fifth most successful thanks to past triumphs in the women's event.
Europe's top men's team Germany were disappointed with a tough draw that will see them meet Sweden in the first round and possibly China in the semi-finals -- ruling out a rematch of the Beijing 2008 final.
China are hot favorites to repeat the clean sweep of golds they achieved on home soil four years ago, although a change in the rules to limit each country to just two players in the singles format will leave them with less room for error.
The country dominates the sport and has won 20 out of the 24 golds since table tennis joined the Olympic program in 1988.

London 2012: North Koreans walk off after flag row
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-18991619
The North Korean women’s football team have walked off the pitch at their Olympic match in Glasgow after their images were shown on a screen beside a South Korean flag.
Kick-off was scheduled for 19:45 BST. The game started over an hour late.
North Korea are playing Colombia in the second of the Olympic matches being held at Glasgow’s Hampden stadium.
Games organisers in London have apologised to North Korean officials for the mistake.
The error occurred when a video package was being shown ahead of kick-off, with the North Koreans noticing that their faces were being pictured alongside the South Korean flag.
The squad walked off and could only be persuaded to return when the teams were announced again with each player’s face displayed next to the North Korean flag.
Does the North Korean coach have the Dear Leader’s invisible cellphone that was so successful in helping to win the World Cup in soccer? Perhaps Mini Me is too busy to give the coach advice and cellphone connections with hell aren’t so good.
