Complete Title is, "Mystery of the Beast of the East River; Was washed-up pig really a dead rat - or even a dog?"
Okay, FReepers.. WHAT IS THIS THING? It appears to have five fingers. WHAT IS IT, a raccoon?

Hmmmm.. It also resembles a opossum and has similar fingers.

a horrifying mystery creature with a mutilated face, snarling snout and five toes on each foot has washed up under the Brooklyn Bridge, perplexing New Yorkers. Amateur photographer Denise Ginley snapped the ghoulish pink carcass while walking along the East River on Sunday and the grisly images, first published by The Gothamist on Monday, have sparked an array of conspiracy theories as to whether it is a giant water-logged rodent, a cooked pig that a family couldn't fit in, a ballooned dog or some other, more sinister, being. A picture of the carcass:

Bingo. I’d bet $5K that is correct.
Decomp and bloat make normal things look funny and stink!

The most shocking aspect of this novel creature is the fact the eyes are on the bottom of the head, and the legs and feet are above the torso. It probably was able to walk on ceilings.

Dogs have four toes plus a ‘dew claw’ higher up on the foreleg. This animal has 5 toes so it’s not a dog. I’m thinking now that it’s a opossum.

Obviously many posters have not spent much time in the wild, nor have they encountered bloated carcasses (human or animal). The multiple pictures indicate features that negate many of the suppositions to this critters’ origins.
Animals do not lose hair when submerged in water. This is not a dog, raccoon, opossum, pig, goat, large cat or fox.
Genetically modified animal? In a way looks like a giant shrew or mole (hairless?). No this is not a critter ever scientifically identified.

Looking at the teeth and the ears: Yep.

Good point. It was possibly shaved for experimentation purposes at Plum Island.
