Is it possible to watch the Olympic Games online? (Vanity)

For those of us who do not subscribe to cable/satellite TV, is there a way to watch live streaming of the 2012 Olympic Games online? I know there is the "NBC Olympics Live Extra" app, but it still requires a cable/satellite subscription including MSNBC and CNBC. :(

A quick search found this.

The network had already announced that the Games will be live-streamed on NBCOlympics.com and that extra content will be available on Facebook

With a cable, satellite or telco TV subscription that includes MSNBC and CNBC, you will have access to live streams of EVERY Olympic event.

In order to stream from NBC, you have to authenticate with your cable/satellite provider to “prove” you subscribe to MSNBC and CNBC. Did I miss something?

From NBC:

Q: How do I watch Live Extra videos?
A: When attempting to access a live stream or full replay, you will be prompted to select your cable, satellite or telco TV provider (e.g. Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, AT&T) from a list. You then will be asked to verify your TV subscription — this often means only entering the username/password corresponding to the online account you established with your provider.

Back to the OP, I don’t subscribe to MSNBC or CNBC.

Just let me know when Trampoline begins.

I understand there's expected to be a lot of tension.

I not only don’t subscribe to MSNBC or NBC, I don’t have a cable service at all, or even a functional TV in the house. The idea of paying a cable bill at my present income level is madness. But every few years I do regret it and feel extremely sorry for myself during the Olympics. I do love watching them. Really wish I could afford cable.

...multitasking at work, sorry.

Yeah, it seems NBC is forcing viewers to login with their Cable or Satelite acct info. ..what a crock.

What do you have? ..rabbit ears?

Try CTV in Canada BBC in Britain or Foxtel in Australia. Probably unavailable like NBC but worth a shot. btw the live preshow on CTV is underway now and the opening ceremonies will be shown live on CTV starting at 4pm EDT.

Showing events live, what a concept.

I’m not sure you need to watch the opening ceremony. From the few details that have been released it is going to be mind blowingly cringeworthy.

Yep they just finished a whole segment sort of honouring the National Health Service mixed in with the hospital that initially received the royalties from J M Barrie’s Peter Pan (Great Ormand Street Hospital).

All of the characters in the show have them surrounded by zombie people in the background.

It lost its way in the middle, but the first part - industrialisation and the rings converging - was mind-blowing.

If you know how to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) out of London, it will make the BBC think you are in London and thus allow you to view their feed. No, I don’t know how to do it but our tech saavy friends may be able to help you.

I deliberately didn't watch it, cos I knew we would blow it.

My bit of the UK is going to get any benefit from the whole fandango anyway.
