OXNARD (AP) Jerry Jones liked the recurring theme for the Dallas Cowboys early in his ownership tenure, when they won three Super Bowls in a four-year span.
These days, the talk starting each camp seems to be about a sense of urgency, changes in the team and again getting a fresh start. There has been only one playoff victory the past 15 years, with a 120-120 regular-season record in that span that includes their 8-8 mark a year ago.
When the Cowboys landed in California for training camp this weekend, one of the first things veteran tight end Jason Witten said after getting off the plane was that this season cant be the same old story.
And Jones talked this offseason about a shrinking window of opportunity for the Cowboys to contend for a championship with core players in their prime like Witten, Tony Romo and DeMarcus Ware.
I want to officially close the window to closing the window. That was offseason talk, Jones said Sunday, the day before the teams first full-squad workout in the owners annual State of the Cowboys talk. I do feel a sense of urgency, though. But more in the framework of were nearer when we open up against the Giants. Weve got to do better, weve got to be tougher.
Another disappointing Cowboys season ended on New Years Day night at the New York Giants, who won the season finale to clinch the NFC East title at 9-7 and went on to win their second Super Bowl in five years.
Jones said the Cowboys have improved their talent level since last year.
They spent big money to get free agent cornerback Brandon Carr and traded up for the sixth overall pick in the draft to get All-American cornerback Morris Claiborne.

Way too early for football! I’m still trying to find other sports to get enthused about to actually watch. Have been trying the Rangers but still having a hard time because it is baseball...
I do like your intent though, but way too early!
No mention of Jerry’s “Glory Hole” comment?
Pre-season games start next week, IIRC.
Of course, if they keep moving the regular season later, the SuperBowl will be on the 4th of July after a while.
There is a written rule in our house:
You root for who ever is playing the Cowboys or the Patriots, if the two are playing each other, watch something else!
Glad to see Demarcus Ware is still playing.
He is one of those fairly rare stars who seem to always do the right thing on and off the field. Never hear anything bad about him.
What’s the over/under on the number of arrest warrants for Dez Bryant this season?
I would probably have to take off my shoes to count that high.
Never too early for football. It’s full tilt full time for me. I can’t get enough.
Easy on my Patriots. I live and die on Brady and Belichick.
Actually, can’t argue with that!!
Kraft is a big Obama, Schumer, etc donor.
Not as big as the Steelers guy, but a Baraqqi disciple nonetheless.
Did he really say that?
Limbaugh is a Steelers fan and their owner gave Obama so much he bought an ambassadorship.
Here’s Kraft’s sad story:
Steven Tyler, OMG.
I can’t think about football until after the election, and only then if Obama is gone.
Jerry said “I Want Me Some Glory Hole”
A few minutes later the Cowboys’ PR Director told the reporters that the term “Glory Hole” was associated with oil drilling.
To which Jerry responded, “That’s news to me.” (now that was funny)
Dallas will never win a SB with Romo at QB
Ha! Well, if you read my biography, you would know that I am a Cowboy fan so the picture is good but not THAT good...heh.
Really looking forward to the season opener! Sounds like you are also a bit anxious...ha.
Yes, He is putting a depressive effect on football - no doubt - as he does the economy.
