Actually abortion was legal in New York and several other states prior to 1973. Before Roe vs. Wade it was up to the state to vote on it. No surprise New York was for it.
I think a lot of the pro-abortion thinking had to do with the number of foundling homes and abandoned babies there have been worldwide throughout history.
