I asked them about this. They said that Lawrence Welk most definitely knew what he was doing here. And Myron Floren's "choking" in the intro was not an accident, either. By their accounts, Welk had a "wicked sense of humor" and often threw in asides like this one to see if anyone got it. Sadly, many took it at face value and missed the point. But according to those who were there, this was deliberate. Genius!"
