A mortified Ryan Lochte is desperately exercising damage control after his mother claimed on national TV that he only does one-night-stands. Now both the swimming star and his mother have tried to clarify that she meant to say that he only takes girls on dates as he doesnt have time for a serious relationship. She meant since the last four years I just wanted to focus on swimming, and I didn't really have time for a relationship, he told Us Weekly on Friday.

He doesn’t seem like the brightest guy in the world.
The apple does not fall far from the tree.
The New Republic had an article about him using I guess a new word “himbo”.
Him mom mis-speaks and you want to whip out the shotgun? For cryin’ out loud......
Hey, I drank beer out of that fountain in Brussels!
He actually has a degree in management (sport management) from Florida and I heard that his mother has an accent and didn’t understand what “one night stand” meant. I may be wrong, but I read that somewhere. She meant he just went out on dates occasionally with all of his training, so he wasn’t in a relationship.
There was an article in the past day or so that explained that MOST Olympic swimmers do this.
Mom should have kept her mouth shut before discussing her son’s personal life. Whether she didn’t use the correct terminology (perhaps she thought a one night stand meant one date) or not, this isn’t anyone’s business. IMHO.
His mom says he did “one night stands” - who said it involved girls?
Depends on the University in Florida whether that degree means anything. I work with a guy who was on an football scholarship at a Fla University and he says he never attended a class. His full time job was football. Somebody sat in for him and did his class work.
After reading Tebow’s book, it was pretty obvious that he got his degree in football with a minor in academics.
Which is fine if you’re a true NFL prospect, but not so good if you’re going to need a job in business after you graduate.
I’d speculate even at Florida there are only a half dozen per year who make it and probably half of them last just a couple years.
He is a WAY better role model than that awful Phelps druggie.
Is his mom’s house being foreclosed on? This morning I heard Imus’s Wolf said it was Gabby’s mom’s $80,000 townhouse being foreclosed on. ANyone which one is true, if either??
Everyone pees in the pool at one time or another and all swimmers do it especially women swimmers..those one piece suits are a a pain to remove. One reason why I won't get in a hot tub with a bunch of people drinking..beers + warm water =bad combo.
P.S. Most people pee in the shower also...
Mothers of Olympic wanna-be stars should never be allowed on television by the athlete’s agents. They usually manage to besmirch the name brand with either stupid remarks such as this, or they come across as the pushy-mom type, such as Michael Phelps has.
I for one will come out and say if I was in my early 20’s and had an olympic swimmers body there is no way I would have one steady girlfriend.
You'd need health insurance!
That's one reason that the young professional athlete should be counseled to use a portion of the high early earnings as downpayment on a couple of well located apartment buildings. A management company runs them, and while they won't make you rich, they'll keep you comfortable for life. And if push come to shove (the trophy wife gets the house and most of the assets when you're caught messin' 'round with a female posse member) you'll always have a place to live!
Here we go again..they are drug tested 5-6 times per year especially after every major swim meet.
If Phelps is smoking pot and is doing that great maybe I should start smoking pot again...

Who needs a drug test....we saw the pictures and he said himself that he is a druggie (he called himself stupid too).
Personally, I don't see what all the controversy is about...
This mother is a loser.

Oh, c’mon. I don’t know anything about this woman, but, as a mother who has inadvertently embarrassed her sons over the years, I am cracking up at this. We moms don’t always keep up with the changing lingo.
I think you could just hand him a mirror and he’d wander off, happy as a clam.
Agreed, Mom’s misusing slang terms is as old as slang itself. I think that’s all that happened here.
OK Mom. I had a Mom too. She also was fond of using expressions with little understanding of their meaning. I never confronted her. Dad was less kind.
Really? So most people can't last 15 minutes without feeling the need to urinate? Sounds like a medical problem to me.
The more women you "date", the greater chance you'll get one of them pregnant (18 years of child support payments) or you'll pick up a STD from one of them (ouch!).
On Friday, both Ryan and Ike, his mother, clarified the comments to USA TODAY Sports. They said they both knew she meant dates, not hookups.
After he explained the difference between "dates" and "hookups."
Sometimes it just happens..the urge. Even my GF admits to doing it at times. As for going in the pool I knew some girls who were on HS swim teams and everyone said it was a given..especially the girls because it was a pain to go to the bathroom and remove and put back on those one piece suits.

Yipes! I would not even want to witness that conversation, much less be a participant.
Boy, times sure have changed since I was a teen girl/young adult. There were always one or two girls that people whispered about as being “that type”, but the majority of girls cherished their chastity and would strongly discourage any young man who had other ideas.
Sadly, these days, such a girl is a rare bird, it seems. Sad for the girls, sad for the boys, sad for society.
There was more premarital sex going on than you remember....people just did not talk about it back then-especially women.
"One night stand" has been around for at least about half a century -- maybe longer. But you know it was originally a metaphor taken from show business. Somewhere there may still be an old vaudevillian who doesn't get it -- who still takes it literally and wonders what the problem is.
I don't think Ryan Lochte's mother is that old, but slang goes in and out of fashion. If she hadn't heard the phrase used in years, maybe she lost track of what it meant.
I did not know that the term “one-night stand” went back to vaudeville. Thanks for that info. I doubt there are too many of the old vaudevillians left with us these days, though.
Yes, I know what you mean about slang terms changing so much. I am 65, and I can remember when “one-night stand” meant what this woman thought it still meant. Of course, that was back when women of easy virtue were not so commonly found.
