Word For The Day, Thursday, August 9, 2012 - nubilous
dictionaries ad nauseam | 9 August 2012 | Thursday's sub

Posted on 08/09/2012 6:01:13 AM PDT by secret garden

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

nubilous \NOO-buh-luhs\, adjective
1. Cloudy or foggy.
2. Obscure or vague; indefinite..

Example sentences:
...trunks as thick as whisky casks and bark like rough-out leather, tower overhead so that the path between them is sheltered from the sun, creating a nubilous atmosphere, soft and pungent with resins, while soft brown needles cushion one's tread.
-- Michael Petracca, Captain Zzyzx

The sky above, dark and nubilous, parted like torn, plump bread and under a sun absorbent and intense, the water began to recede over low bridges. The storm was ending.
-- Elizabeth Léonie Simpson, Stranger From Home

Etymology:
Nubilous comes from the Latin root nūb meaning "cloud."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

No hurry. The left will demonize whichever pick he makes anyway. A+.

Sounds like a word Spicoli would have used in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

“Dude, these fish tacos are totally nubilous!”

We can’t nominate Rubio as VP until the Supreme Court clears up the nubilous definition of “natural born citizen”.

I am reluctantly backing Ryan. Reluctant, only because a VP nomination would take him out of the House. But, pperhaps that is the sacrifice we have to make to add excitement to the Romney campaign.

Didn’t she lose re-election in a landslide?

the NBC BS is ridiculous and not taken seriously outside of a few nutters on FR. Has Mark Levin expressed any concerns about Rubio in that regard? i think not. Rubio’s financial snafus are of far greater concern, and even those aren’t fatal.

conor is a MD resident and could speak to that better than i, but i am pretty sure you are right. she’s brainless and if she were just speaking on behalf of herself, i wouldn’t even comment, but the fact that she’s trying to haul Catholics into her heresy just fries my behind.

Oreilly referenced Spicoli on the Factor last night, pretty funny.

I agree completely! How about her philandering brother’s claim (published yesterday) that his late wife, Mary, called him the night before she offed herself and said, “Everything is my fault.” (Or words to that effect.)

The SCOTUS seems to clearly defer these types of issues to the political process.

the family as a whole has no conscience, else they would not be able to walk outside of the house and look any one in the eye, let alone opine on religion, given their shameful history.

I don’t agree with you on the NBC issue. If you read all of the case law, Obama is NOT eligible by reason that his father was never a citizen, unless his father is somebody different than he claims. By the same reasoning, Rubio is not eligible either.

At that point any comparisons between Rubio and Obama diverge, because there are no other comparisons.

any legal type i have ever even broached the subject to rolls their eyes and laughs, but the constitutional “scholars” on FR claim to know better and think it’s ironclad. oh well.

Again, far greater legal minds than i— Levin, Ingraham, Coulter [they are far greater legal minds than i, and hence far greater legal minds than any LAYPERSON on FR] do not appear to find this an impediment. i have real problems with lay people opining on legal precedent.

But it is a Constitutional issue, not an electoral issue. Congress should really initiate a Constitutional Amendment and let it work its way through Congress and the States to decide this once and for all. Allowing this indecision to eat away at the confidence of the citizenry in the government is unconscionable. Clearly the Dems were worried about it in 2007, or else they wouldn’t have passed a resolution proclaiming McCain a NBC.

Whose Congress? Our Congress?

The way I see it one is either born a citizen or one is naturalized. If you were never anything other than a citizen, then you are eligible for the Presidency.

KKT had been Glendening's Lt. Governor - stood for governor in 2002 against Bob Ehrlich, losing by a healthy margin. (51.55% to 47.68%) The reason she lost the election in such a blue state is that she was a shrill, shrieking harridan.

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
