NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Cleanup began at vandalized church Wednesday while church members prayed for the 9 and 10-year-old children charged with the crime.
Adult hands are washing away the work of 9 and 10-year-olds, putting faith in a higher power to find a way to forgive.
Norfolk police say the children who vandalized Christ First Community Fellowship from end-to-end live in the neighborhood. They're all charged with felony vandalism and burglary. Pastor Joe Spear said the children have walked the halls of the church before.
"To know there's five of them involved," said Spear. "It's still just surprising..."
Spear said that the suspects attended vacation bible school and other events, but were not regular attendees.
An eight man Servicemaster of Southside team is painstakingly making progress with the clean-up. They've turned the kitchen -- once cluttered with food and sprayed with ketchup -- into a place to cook once again

Please don’t take offense.....but this is from over 2 years ago.
what's up with posting a story from 2010?
Must be her V.90 modem.
I hope the offenders are still in prison.
2010...? Their asses should just be cooling off just about now from the whooping they should have received back then.
Well played and thanks for a laugh. Time was a V.90 was a major upgrade for me:
That's a pretty accurate picture of what I had back in the day with a hard copy TTY for the "display" device.
Isn’t it up to God to forgive?
As a practical matter, restitution would be required first, seems like maybe the perps ought to clean up the mess. It might take a few years for those kids to earn the money required. And then there’s the issue of whether they are truly remorseful.
Basically, “forgiveness” is just a meaningless weasel-phrase or cliche as used in this piece. Don’t fall for it. Did plenty of stupid stuff as a kid (nothing like this!), forgiveness is not automatic nor an entitlement.
That's some pretty cutting edge stuff...we had (I kid you not) IBM Selectric typewriters as our input AND display devices in our state-of-the-art college computer lab!
2 years ago, but it was on Drudge today. Interesting.
The kids did it again. Here is the link:

They went back to the church and did 10K in damage.

An observation on Vacation Bible School.
The low end “child care” centers around here use church’s Vacation Bible Schools as a dumping ground.
They find out who’s doing what when and on the first day show up with a van full of kids and drop them off.
Caused a bit of a problem for a couple of years for our church - being small we had planned for 15 - 20 kids and ended up with around 60. Caused a bit of a scramble for a couple of years until we started enforcing a five kids = one assistant rule.
Of course we were hit with the “rasist” charge, etc, etc, etc but they moved on.
As a church we didn’t have a problem with the kids and did the best we could - hoping to be a good influence on them but we were swamped - and the “day care” folks were being paid for the care we were providing.
Seems to me that the KIDS should have been made to work on the clean-up, as well.
