” a fairly nice hotel in the Austin area in which one could stay for the weekend and be in a pleasant environment.”
Well, do you want to go to Austin or not? If so, by definition, you are not going to be in a pleasant environment.

next to Papadeaux
It’s Pappadeaux, from the Pappas family.
They have a Four Seasons hotel in Austin, can’t go wrong with the Four Seasons

If you’re looking northwest, there is a Motel 6 that my cousing stayed in off 183 that was okay and I believe there’s a Holiday Inn near there as well. South at the intersection 35 and 71 there’s a Hampton Inn and Red Roof Inn. I stayed at the Red Roof when I first came to Austin. It’s also quite serviceable.

I was just guessing. I’ll defer to you, the one with real experience. I grew up in northern MN (hence, my name), but now live just down I35 from Austin TX.
