VANITY: Easy things Romney can do to survive first year: Part 3 - Appointments
WileyC

There's quite a few people that serve at the pleasure of the president. There's no congressional oversight because they are members of the executive branch, in effect, and they are simply appointed. Others require the Advice and Consent of the Senate and become more contentious (judicial appointments are always a hot-button issue).

Romney needs to walk into the Oval Office prepared to clean house. It's much better to take the political heat early than to have a viper working against you during your presidency. "W" learned this the hard way when he tried to play nice coming into office. Just like with a failing business that has bad leadership, you have to clear the ranks of anyone who will stand in the way of success.

Too many agencies are rife with A) liberal partisans or B) endemic corruption. The EPA and the State Department are so glutted with socialists and progressive they are probably lost causes. In other cases, there are plenty of good people (the Justice Department) and the only major problem is the person currently at the top.

The best plan is to clear out everyone that BHO brought in with him and anyone who has proven to be an issue when it comes to real reform. Don't accept moderates; put people ready to make real change and be ready to can them if they can't handle it.

Richard Fisher should be named Treasury Secretary or Chairman of the Fed.

Sweep pout the State Department, put Bolton as Secretary of State and clean that place out. Civil service liberals who think their feet are in concrete, CAN be made to leave, Move them, retire them, transfer them, do what is necessary but get them out of the State Department.

Romney should follow Hitlery’s actions on the first day of Slicks term; Day one: fire ALL DOJ lawyers as well as ALL DHS personnel. Day 2 or ASAP: indict obozo for (huge list of things) but to start, fraud, treason, and mis- appropriation of public funds (steeling our money to give it to the mafia); indict Holder, Hitlery and Nepalitano for failure to uphold the law (illegal immigration) and for conspiracy for the deaths of Ryan Terry, ICE agent Jamie Zapata and hundreds of Mexican citizens. Romney can choose to do what is right by the US and become a great president or if the US still has a viable social structure, he can go down in flames in the 2016 election

“The EPA and the State Department are so glutted with socialists and progressive they are probably lost causes.”

Here is how Romney should handle the EPA.

First, every manager there who -is not- a civil service employee (and by that, I mean everyone who holds an appointment and serves at the pleasure of the president) should be terminated immediately. Told to get off the property — not even permitted the opportunity to clean out their desks, which may hold incriminating documents that reveal the truth about how that place was operated.

Next, because the civil service employees cannot be summarily terminated without cause, what’s to be done with them? The solution is actually easy. Since these people are “worker bees”, and in most cases not directly responsible for departmental policy, JUST TAKE AWAY THEIR WORK (shouting intentional).

Whatever projects they have been assigned to work on — just tell them those projects are cancelled, and they will be assigned new duties. And then…

…. give them absolutely NOTHING “to do”. Even if it means just sitting at their desks and twiddling their thumbs. Paying them to come to work each day and do nothing at all is less destructive to America’s future than actually having them DO something that in effect further contributes to the national decline.

In addition, the EPA workers should be told that they will be given no favorable job performance reviews so long as they choose to remain in the EPA, but that they’re free to transfer to other agencies. Although we can’t fire them, we can make their futures [at least within the confines of the EPA] very unattractive. They will seek governmental employment elsewhere.

Finally, Romney should install at the very top a new director and perhaps a few assistants whose official duties will be to review ALL regulations issued by the agency since its inception, with the objective of repealing/withdrawing as many as possible. Hopefully those that have been codified in the Code of Federal Regulations can be submitted to a Republican Congress for quick repeal.

To simply say “let’s get rid of the EPA” isn’t going to work.
The better way is to make it a very unatractive place to work from the inside, and then, again from the inside, begin to dismantle it, piece by piece...

Isn't it tragic that this is absolutely true?

“...ALL DHS personnel....”

Does that include:

Coast Guard personnel
Career Secret Service
Career Border Patrol
Career “Whatever they now call the Customs Service”

they are ALL DHS personnel!

This could be done to a lot of USG (even state agencies!).
Over time (probably a shorter period then you think!) you would trim these agencies back into something useful or gone completely. (Particularly after people realize the world didn't end without these agencies meddling around!)

Basically, clean out the crony corruption and start with the dike and work down, at least through the chief director and assistant director levels of each unit. The Coast Guard units should be restructured and put under special services or state control. Re all of the grunts that actually do the work in each unit, if they have not proved themselves to be little tin gods, leave them alone.

the Coast Guard belongs with DOD maybe DOJ...but DOD is a better fit. The reason is those cutters cost a little more then police cruisers! The Coast Guard has always had trouble with getting adequate equipment, modern equipment, as well perennial O&M issues. However it does have a law enforcement function and there is a proper skittishness about putting an LE agency in DOD.

The states would never pay for or properly man a state coast guard. As much as I would like to see states reassert their sovereignty I have a hard time seeing them do this. Only now are states timidly willing to tackle the illegal issue.

Customs (or whatever they are now!)as does USSS belongs back under US Treasury. Border Patrol belongs under DOJ.

DHS was a Bush era example of political expediency triumphing over intelligent policy. (Same argument applies to the stupid DNI structure!) How can adding more bureaucracy solve a bureaucratic problem!
