BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Democratic candidate fresh off a primary win for a state house seat is accused of hitting a car, then leaving the scene of the accident.
Christina Ayala, 29, clinched the nomination Tuesday night and the very next day police say she crashed into another car.
The victim's mother, Mireja Porto says she's lucky her 26-year-old daughter Krystal Velez survived, while looking at a picture of the twisted mangled car.
"We're just trying to deal," said Porto, "my daughter's upstairs in bed, she's not well, her head hurts, her neck hurts, her back hurts, she's in lots of pain."
Witnesses say Ayala ran a red light and hit the front of Velez's car.
News 8 tried talking to Ayala, but all we found was some of her campaign signs and a beat up car.

A witness to the accident followed the candidate so he could get info for the police. The candidate said she was fearful of the witness so that's why she took off.
But, for Connecticut Democrats, things like this are almost a requirement. She'll fit right in representing Bridgeport

The victim's vehicle.
Great minds think alike :-)
Why am I not surprised?
In a deep blue state like CT, this will be a resume enhancement.
She will wreck the local economy like it was being hit by her car...and then leave the scene.
Last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it!
Good start by the mom in diffusing the crisis.
Daughter is hurt.
Can’t criticize a hurt person, nor can a hurt person offer an explanation.
So far, so good.
Next step is to get a neckbrace, I’d try Hyannisport if you don’t have one lying around.
Finally, follow the three “D”’s.
-Don’t worry, because Conn. Dems will still vote for you.
In parts of Bridgeport this is considered classy behavior.
Just for a little political background info: The particular state house district Ayala is running for (the 128th) is central Bridgeport. The outgoing rep for that district is Andres Ayala, Jr. who apparently is running for a state Senate seat this time. Don’t know if he is related to the Ayala involved in the crash or not, though.
“But Your Honor, I’m not guilty of anything... I was simply channeling my inner Kennedy.”
What are you talking about? Valez is not at fault and the Mom may very well be telling the entire truth.
You are in danger of losing your job. Never, ever put a dims name in the first sentence.
A Democratic candidate .......
I was very surprised myself that the party of the perp was mentioned right up front. But Bridgeport, Waterbury, New Haven, and Hartford are all solidly Democratic cities as well as places the rest of Connecticut residents avoid if at all possible.
Nothing in the local fish wrap about the accident. I’m going to bet that article will have no party mentioned
Tell, doesn't she remind you of that woman who drove around three days with a live guy stuck in her windshield?
From the local paper:
“Ayala’s victory kept the 128th District seat in her family. She is the cousin of Andres Ayala, who held the seat for the past six years before deciding to enter a three-way race for the Democratic state senate seat in that same district, in which he claimed victory Tuesday. She is the daughter of Santa Ayala, the Democratic registrar of voters, and Alberto “Tito” Ayala, a former councilman known for his ability to generate votes.”
She got 64% of vote. A local comment on a Bridgeport site said that there was an officer named Ayala on police report. Small world.
We were driving straight across Camden from that bridge from Philadelphia when our car stopped. Fortunately it was a very cold day and nobody wanted to leave their burning trash barrels.
