Video of the bizarre Indonesian Mimic Octopus
Palau Travel and Dive Photoog ^ | Jim Caldwell

Posted on 08/19/2012 1:15:49 PM PDT by jwsea55

Discovered in 1998 off the coast of Indonesia, the mimic octopus is the first known species to take on the characteristics of multiple species.

The octopus grows to about 2 feet in length and primarily lives in the seas of Southeast Asia. It impersonates at least 15 different species (including sea snakes, lionfish, flatfish, brittle stars, giant crabs, sea shells, stingrays, jellyfish, sea anemones, and mantis shrimp) as means of evading or becoming a seeming predator of its own predators. As an example, in order to evade a damselfish, it mimics a banded sea snake, the damsel’s known predator.

Check out swimming in a lake with millions of stingless jellyfish at the same site.

The Darwinian explanation for this requires an enormous amount of faith in impossible numbers.

Like going to Mt Rushmore, looking up and not believing in a creator.

Our native mocking bird mimics the songs of other birds very well.

Palau is a diving destination. That’s so much nicer than the tours offered in the fall of 1944. Most will forget but the Marine Corps will remember forever. Many Japanese families will remember, because of the 10,000 sons who never returned. The last survivors walked out of the caves in 1947.

That was the interesting thing about perusing this site. It did a great job talking about the dive part of Palau but also gave a generous amount of time to its history. Did you check out the history page? They did a good job talking about how bad the Peleliu battle was. I get a sick feeling everytime I read or hear the press bashing what the United States has done for (to) the world.
