Connecticut has high taxes, increasing crime and a dwindling industrial base. The financial services industry is under assault, particularly the health insurance industry. If RINOs count, it’s turning purple.

Alot of people who live in Connecticut work in Manhattan’s financial district.

Or maybe I should say USED to work there. Many people have lost their jobs on Wall Street and in the banking industry in NYC. Others who still have jobs are worried about losing them in a tough economic climate, which they know will only get worse in a second Obama term. Most are probably fed up with Obama’s demonization of the “rich.”

I was part of the Connecticut conservative movement in the 90’s. The state is full of conservative Roman Catholics who voted reliably Democrat. They were able to justify this behavior a number of ways but were never comfortable with the secular leftists in their party. When Obama took on the Catholic Church it was too much for many of them. If they have to choose between the Church and Obama, Obama will lose. New Mexico and Connecticut both have that Catholic connection.

Remember that Obama is pro regionalization. The people of Connecticut will go to war over that. It's been a sore spot in Connecticut for over 60 years. Regionalization is a battle Obama’s mentors lost. Liberal’s never give up.

Regarding New Mexico, where did that information come from?

I don’t care where Nevada is in the polls, if Romney can get out close to 100% of the LDS vote, which he will, then he wins Nevada.

Do you have some links for that polling?

I’ve been a Connecticut resident for 62 years.

Since the 80’s, the state has been tipping further and further left, to the point where it’s essentially “toppled over”. I don’t believe there currently is a single Republican representing the state in Congress (House/Senate).

Linda McMahon is making a second attempt for the Senate, but she lost last time despite spending millions, has spent millions again this time to fend off a couple of primary challengers, will spend millions more between now and November, and.... probably lose again. (Aside: one can’t help think that she’s trying to buy the office, a la John Corzine.)

Romney may get close here, but I doubt he’ll win. I’d say his chances here are about as good as they are in Massachusetts next door...

I’d enjoy being proven wrong this November...

and lets keep in mind Pennsylvania, we all know Romney would win assuming no voter fraud. the GOP voters need to come out in full force to take the state. Now that would be the October Surprise. “Romney Leads Obama By 10 Points In Pennsylvania”!

giving Obama more states to worry about and less money and time to campaign in.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

BINGO! You nailed it. Obama and team blew their wad this summer and it has not hurt Romney in the polls. Now, Obama’s cash flow is tanking and Romney has about $40 Million more on hand for the final two months of the campaign than Obama has. PLUS....Romney’s Super Pacs have a gazillion dollars to spend. The Obama team miscalculated badly.

Not all Connecticut Nutmeggers are democrats.

My little town has been Republican for years. Only twice in my lifetime, I’m in the fifty’s nifty club, has a democrat been elected first selectman. And both times, the town went bak to republican leadership after one term.

Don’t judge the whole state by the few, albeit big, sewers in the state.

O.k. How about two more reasons? Romney's Morman connections give him a great organisation in the western mountain states including New Mexico. His power base in Massechusetts gives him pull with the Connecticut electorate.

I have a relative who is very high up on the corporate ladder of a global chain you’ve certainly heard of. He lives in a rich area of Connecticut. It’s the kind of town where you’ll get pulled over by the local police force if your car is over 5 years old.

I was recently at his house for a party and overheard some of his friends talking politics. I heard at least three different people - all from this same “class” of people - say for the first time they are going to vote Republican. They were saying it like they were teenagers sneaking out of the house at night for the first time and I believed it when I heard them.

These folks aren’t dumb with their money. After 3+ years of Obama attacking “the rich”, “the rich” have gotten the message. The conversations I overheard - and the polls discussed here - are the reprecussions. I suspect this is represented in the polls showing CT as a toss up.
