I thought he would yesterday, and I hope he listens to his better nature ans resigns the nomination before the deadline. But I fear now he thinks he’s “special” and immune to forces that would wipe out a greater politician. He has people on both sides pressuring him to either leave or stay, and he’s arrogant enough to choose to stay and sink the party in MO.
I still can’t believe a 12-year veteran of the House could make such an idiotic mistake. In politics, which is basically the craft of talking, one lives by the talk, and dies by it. The only question today is how many people he chooses to take down with him. A lot of FReepers seem to think we should stick by our guy, like the Democrats do, no matter how evil or stupid.
Let’s just say I disagree. We have a standard for honesty and intelligence, and he fails the latter miserably. If he refuses to budge, then he’s arrogant enough to think the standards don’t apply to him to boot. I don’t need the enemedia to tell me he’s toast, I can see that for myself. I find the argument that those of us who want to hold him to a standard are somehow tools of the leftists insulting.
So Akin changed your mind. He is worse than McCaskill. Vote McCaskill eh?
For the definition of denial, your posts are superb.
Hussein is weak. McCaskill is joined at the hip with him and they will go down together.
The RSCC said yesterday they will not support Akin. These are the same GOP-E self serving aristocrats who supported Crist over Rubio and Murkowski over Miller.
I have no understanding or compassion for those who flee in the face of a weak and dispirited enemy.
Hell with Akin. I voted for Brunner in the primary. If not for mccaskill spending a ton of money on advertising prior to the primaries no one outside of Missouri would have ever heard of Akin.
It is irrelevant, this POS moron is diverting attention from obamacare, economy, national deficit and this needs to be stopped.
For the definition of disloyalty and cowardice, your posts are outstanding.
If you insist on calling it fleeing, I have no further use for you or your thread. You are at least as stupid and possibly as arrogant as Akin.
This was just about the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard said or seen done by a politician this close to an election, and only an arrogant jerk (Akin) or an ignorant fool (you) can think he can get away with this. Like I said, the only question I have at this point is “How many other Republicans is he willing to take down with him?” If you can’t see how devastating his continued candidacy can be to the entire national party in November, there is no hope for your enlightenment. One must carefully select the battle to be fought, and this one is 100% on the Dems’ turf. Apparently you will have to learn it the hard way.
I’m just a little ticked you have to take all of us down with you, insulting everybody on your way down.
Go on and enlist with the other intellects in the conservative circular firing squad.
Haha. Denial
Why would you want to go down with the ship with this guy? He’s intellectually bankrupt, who has no real accomplishments in the House (basically a back bencher for 12 years).
If this was an intellectual heavyweight/leader who made a verbal error, I’d be right with you. But this guy is not too bright (I listened to him on hannity) and is capable of taking down the entire party with him. The left is dying to tie the views of this guy to the entire Republican party.
Not every statement and/or candidate is worth defending. In politics you gotta be able to recongnize a losing hand when it's dealt. We don't have time to blow elections on bad candidates. We need to be putting our best people forward and Akin obviously isn't it. He needs to drop out for the good of the country and let someone else beat McCaskill. If he doesn't we will not take this seat. Period.
Finally, anyone who calls for Biden's comments "put you back in chains" outrageous, but defends Akin needs a serious head examination. Preferably using an MRA and MRI to confirm the existence of a brain in their cranium.
Contrast the Akin non-issue with a paragraph from David Schippers' book Sellout, about the Clinton Senate trial.
He described some rat Senators who told him they didn't care if an eyewitness caught BJ with smoking gun over a dead body, they would not vote to convict.
If we had only a tenth of their loyalty over the decades since, the dinosaur media wouldn't bother to exploit every conservative imperfection, and we wouldn't have supposed conservatives calling for Akin's scalp.
This is all a pointless discussion. It’s up to the one person arrogant and foolhardy enough to think this can be papered over, so you will get your way: Akin will stay. The damage to the rest of the party will be huge, but who cares, we will have “stood by our guy, right or wrong,” just like the Democrats we abhor. Hey, it works for them, why not us, right?
Now, we WILL lose the chance to regain the Senate, that’s the one sure thing. We will probably lose more than that, but we’ll just have to wait and see. And start looking for somewhere else to live because this country is going to be impossible in a few years. All because of one stupid mistake by one politician who thinks standards of intelligence and preparedness don’t apply to him.
It’s not fair, but it’s how politics works. Akin has worked within this system for over a dozen years, and still thinks this was an OK thing to say.
In order for a conservative to earn the support of conservatives he better be espousing a conservative principle and he plainly wasn't. Why would honestly expect us to support him in his stupidity? It's akin (ha) to supporting Holder on F&F just because he's a liberal, regardless of how many died. As conservatives we decry this behavior but you are saying we should emulate it. I think I will stick with principle and that includes calling out a party member when he goes against those principles.
It’s not a phony outrage. He said a real undisputably outrageous thing. Even he dosen’t disput that.
Outrage is the only decent reaction.
Akin is an example of "run until your legs are ready to fall off"
I agree with you. I DO think though he was speaking honestly (but I believe you were making a generality in stating we shouldn’t tolerate liars among conservatives). I also feel that he is intelligent.
The fact is, is that this was the worst timing ever for him. In a non-election year, he has time to do damage control and issue some better statements. Right now there is 2.5 months till election day and there is not enough time to do damage control. If he stays on, He will be pounded without mercy. And Dems always win with the short term issues. It’s when conservatives can make people think about the issues, that conservative ideals win out (rightfully so). There just isn’t enough time for damage control.
